Melee Weapon Mastery feat (PHBII)

Legildur

First Post
Stated benefit is +2 bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls "when using any melee weapon that has the damage type you selected" (piercing, slashing, bludgeoning).

Prerequisites for the feat include Wpn Focus and Spec in a weapon of the appropriate damage type.

Does the benefit of the feat stack with the prerequisite feats?

If so, then a longsword using fighter could have (by 12th level) +4 attack bonus and +6 damage on every attack simply from feats alone! I like it!

As written, it does indeed stack. .

Same here. PHBII has made the fighter a lot better at his job.

I am confused. Weapon Focus is +1 to attack, combined with this feat = total +3 attack. Weapon Specialization is +2 damage, combined with this feat = total +4 damage. Where are you getting +4/+6 from?

I believe they are assuming Greater Weapon Focus and Specialization along with the other feats.

Greater weapon focus = another +1
Greater weapon spec = another +2 to dmg

The original response was by level 12, so a fighter qualifies by this level.

Ah, fair enough.

Doesn't this also buff the two weapon fighter fighting with two of the same weapon as well, since each focus specialization applies to both weapons?

Suddenly a monkey gripping dual bastard sword wielding fighter with regular and greater weapon focus and specialization and now this feat is REALLY dealing out the damage. Get that guy some sneak attack, and some levels of tempest to lessen the penalties...

Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting, and dual-wield longswords, or forgo that and dual-wield shortswords. The bonus damage makes the base damage difference meaningless.

That's true with any feat...

Anyway, looks like this is WotC's attempt to make high level Fighter feats (which many people say there aren't any of)

Monkey Grip a large doublesword. Then, the Tempest benefits compensate for the MG penalty.
