Dwarves aren't automatically more proficient with dwarven waraxes than any other race.
Take another look at page 15 of the Player's Handbook, please, under "Weapon Familiarity." If a dwarf fighter or ranger takes Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting, both his attacks do 1d10 base damage. He has a higher attack bonus than with the Large two-bladed sword, and spends fewer feats.

Whoops - completely forgot about that! Thanks for the correction.

Is the benefit the same for Ranged Weapon Mastery?
In short, yes. And the weapon also gains an additional 20ft to its range increment.

Edit: And it's interesting that the short description in the table fails to mention the +2 bonus to attack and damage found in the full feat description. A case of text trumping table - and I like it!

Thanks for the info. I know an archer PC whose player might be very interested in that.

That's true with any feat...

Anyway, looks like this is WotC's attempt to make high level Fighter feats (which many people say there aren't any of)
Not really. This only makes four-level fighter dips more attractive, since the prerequisites are Specialization and BAB +8. It's so vastly superior to Greater Weapon Focus that it removes the only benefit of being a single-classed 8th-level fighter. It's also a must-have for every 12th-level favored soul, which is odd, considering that it gives them bonuses on weapons with which they aren't even proficient.

This is an amazingly powerful feat as written: even if it applied to only one melee weapon, it would be as good as three feats put together, and it applies to fully a third of the melee weapons in the game. It's a no-brainer. I strongly suspect that there's an erratum on its way, because otherwise, this is hideously overpowered. It doesn't even help the ftr 8 as much as it helps the rgr 2/ftr 6, the bbn 2/ftr 6 and the rog 3/ftr 4.

Proposed fix: Change the prerequisites to: Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Focus, fighter level 10. Add the following paragraph to the benefit section: "You only receive these bonuses when wielding a manufactured weapon with which you are proficient. The benefits of this feat do not stack with those from Weapon Focus or Weapon Specialization. They do stack with all other bonuses, including those from Greater Weapon Focus and Greater Weapon Specialization." This still gives the fighter a greater bonus on attack rolls with his primary weapon, while not making GWF obsolete.
