Memphis, TN- How's the Gaming

Hey all,

I had a friend move to Memphis for school. How is the gaming out there? I know she'd like to find a new group.

I lived in Memphis for 3 years and from my limited gaming experience I can tell that the quality of gamers is excellent, but the numbers are lacking. Trading card games and minuratures game seem to be far more popular than Role playing games. There are only 2 gaming store in the whole city that I can think of...So you do the math. I hope that helps :)

Oddly enough, I live in Knoxville, TN (on the other end of the state) and we have a fairly large gaming population while being a much smaller city... Tell your friend it is her duty as a gamer to bring the light of rpg's to the unwashed masses :D

Wish I'd seen this earlier.

I live in Memphis, and I can tell you there's not a shortage of gamers. In a lot of ways its a military and college town, though, and groups tend to be somewhat insular, school buddies/friends-of-friends and such. Unfortunately, there's only two dedicated game stores in town, neither of which have much in-store rpg play, and no current game clubs on the local campuses. Finding a group or finding players gets a bit difficult in that situation.

BelenUmeria, if you'll email me I'll see if there's a group I can put your friend in contact with.

Yah, and Knoxville even has some game designers in it. It's where I live, and Shawn Carman is just down the road as well.

I live in Memphis as well. There is no shortage of gamers around here. Sure Table-top wargaming and CCG's are popular but there are more than enough RPG groups to go around. In fact since 3E , my problem has been finding enough time to play in all the games going on.
I know several different groups, + I GM a Campaign myself. Feel free to e-mail me & I'd be happy to help your friend find a group that fits their gaming needs.
Warm Regards,
Brutorz Bill
