Mending

First Post
I've been following the various Sunder threads (here and in house rules).

Somewhere somebody mentioned that Mending (PH p.227) could make whole the item sundered (but obviously not restore any kind of magic).

Now, the problem is that Mending only affects an object of up to one pound.

Does this mean that there are no spells that can mend a sword for instance, or have I just missed it?

At 0th level, you can't expect too much from mending.

The spell you want is make whole. It's limited by volume (10 cu. ft. / level) but not weight, and can fix multiple breaks or tears at once.

Yes Make Whole is what you need.

I have a DM that has had Magic Swords that the only magic on it is Make Whole all the time so when it breaks it is repaired the next round. Well the Magic is in a Gem that you placed in the pomul so the magic doesnt go away when the sword is sundered.

Thanks, Make Whole was kinda what I was looking for, but I can't see why it should be a Cleric only spell.

Time for a new house rule, I guess...

Well not all spells are shard between the classes.

Why do Clerics not get Cats Grace but do get Bull's Streangth and Endurance?

'Cos the archetypical cleric wears heavy armor and has more use for strenght and con boosters? Or an oversight?

I don't know. Actually I think there should be less spell sharing, to differentiate arcane and divine magic.

But I still feel a wizard should be able to mend a broken sword.

I agree on both cases.

I was just saying that wizards may not have it for a balence reason.

In a game Im playing we bought a wand of Make Whole. The DM was like "ok....."

Then when we were going though a old abandoned castle the DM was telling us what was there.

DM:"The Main hall you can see in its time was a rich and wonderful room. The masterwork chairs and paintings have grown so old that they look like if you touched them they would break or crumble. Four Great tapastrys hang on the wall in the same condition as the other things in this room."

PC: I cast Make whole on all items the look like they were worth something."

I like Mending for all those broken arrows. :D

I added a quiver of returning and mending (I took the same price of the scabbard of keen edges and added 2000 for the mending). Arrows drawn from the quiver return and mend one round after leaving the possessor of the quiver.

Of course, we also houseruled that only the heads of the arrows were magical, so mending would work on the broken shaft.
