Metacritic Ratings for new fall shows

I'll add:

Flash Gordon 35
Torchwood 74

I didn't count these because they aren't really "Fall Season" TV shows. Torchwood isn't too far off, but the cable networks don't typically follow the network TV seasons. In fact, some like USA deliberately schedule their seasons around them.

Chuck - 74

This, I have no idea how I missed.

I'll keep updating the original post as new shows appear. I'll keep an eye on ratings, but they typically don't change as much as movies (less TV reviewers).

My god. Cane is probably the worst pilot I have ever seen. I'm flummoxed.

One other thought. Typically reviewers get to see the first 2-3 episodes of a series. Maybe it improves over the next couple episodes.

Could well be.

I like soap operas fine... don't love 'em, but don't hate 'em. The issues with the Cane pilot were the incredibly stiff acting, utterly cliched writing, and even awkward pacing. And hey, I really like Jimmy Smits, and enjoy most everything he does. But not this turd.

Whereas Journeyman, while maybe not the best show ever, is head and shoulders (and hips and knees) above Cane.

An polarized group this time. We have great ratings forPushing Daisies and good reviews for Aliens in America. We have bad ratings for Carpoolers & abysmal ratings for Cavemen.

I have Pushing Dasies on tape and will watch it tonight. Aliens in America and Carpoolers both don't interest me so I am skipping them. I tried watching Cavemen and the reviewers were right on the money. I didn't even make it through the whole episode of Cavemen before switching channels. The only thing worse I have seen lately was the Flash Gorden "Birdbrainmen" episode.

I"d put kitchen nightmares in the midrange. My husband and I are big fans of the BBC show and the Americanization of that show is horrible. In the British version, the focus is on the restaurant and the food. This version seems to be about finding whatever animosity exists. Everything has to be super dramatic and the "worst" ever. It's so over dramatized. The british version has drama and interpersonal conflict but it's never drawn out to the point it is on the American version. Plus he doesn't go back at the end of the show, which takes a lot out of the show by now showing us if the suggestions worked longterm.

My understanding is that the shows with him going back are sort of "bonus content" episodes. They did the original episode first. Later instead of just rerunning old episodes they had him go back and revisit it for sort of "bonus content" for the rerun.

I know one of the recent BBC America episodes had him go back a few years after the original visit. I doubt they sat on the episode that long before showing it.

Just to be clear, in case anyone pops in this thread and sees "Ratings", these numbers are not nielsen ratings. These are opinions of critics, which can bare no relationship to actual show ratings.

For example, Chuck is rated high by the critics here, while Bionic Woman and Big Bang Theory are medium ratings by the critics.

However, as far as actual ratings, Bionic Woman has higher ratings than the other two. Bionic Woman in fact has the highest actual ratings of any new pilot this season, though it had a BIG drop off for the second episode.

Meanwhile, Chuck and Big Bang are about tied for ratings, and slowly dropping. In fact, my guess is that Chuck has a 50-50 chance of being canceled at this point, despite it being a decent show with critical appreciation.

My bets:

Will stay:
Bionic Woman
Private Practice
Pushing Daisies
Reaper (CW, where even bad ratings are good ratings)

Cusp:
Journeyman
Big Bang Theory*
Chuck
Life
Moonlight
Dirty Sexy Money

Gone:
Carpoolers
Cavemen
Big Shots
Gossip Girl
K-Ville

*[Edit: Just read that Big Bang got one of the highest post-airing bumps from DVR views ever, which is not saying a lot given this is the first season the ratings are accounting for DVR viewings within the first 24-72 hours, but it's something).

Well, I am wrong on one prediction so far:

http://www.medialifemagazine.com/ar..._25/New_season_hit_list_of_troubled_shows.asp

CBS’s Monday sitcom “Big Bang Theory” has stable ratings and is improving on its lead-in. Fox’s comedy “Back to You” with Kelsey Grammer has been losing a few ratings tenths each week but appears to be settling into a modest hit.

“'Back to You' is doing well partly because there haven’t been any good comedies for a while,” says Sternberg. “But we have to see where it is in week four and week five.”

Fox’s “Kitchen Nightmares” picked up steam in its third episode after stumbling in its second.

And the CW’s “Gossip Girl,” which has been picked up for the full season, and “Reaper” are doing well among the network’s young viewers.

If Gossip Girl got picked up, I think Reaper has a really good shot at also getting picked up. Apparently, CW is willing to settle for cable-level ratings for their shows for now.
