Metamagic feats for a first time wizard player

I'm a fan of sculpt spell as well once you meet the prereq, some of those areas are far superior to the ones the spells use.

I'll jump on the Extend spell bandwagon. If combined with the correct spells it can really increase damage potential. An extended Acid arrow is just plain nasty.

The problem with an Extended Melf's Acid Arrow is it takes too long to do the damage. It can also lead to situations where both sides end up dead.

The only time I can really see this being useful is to cause Concentration checks because of the continuous damage or to hit an opponent as they flee. Hopefully you have a ranger along to help you track the opponent, so you can find the body.

Having used it, I just don't find Extend that useful for Melf's Acid Arrow. On the other hand, there are several other spells where it would be quite useful such as a cloud spell or Wall of Force.
