Metamorphosis

Ok, I've seent he erratta for Polymorph Self for the PsiHB, and so I know that you can't change shapes over and over anymore (which is a good thing). I do have one question about the higher level version of Polymorph Self: Metamorphosis.

Could the psion turn into a block of Adamantium of (assuming they knew about it) Oburium? This would grant them an insanely high Hardness rating (20 or 30). They wouldn't be able to move, but accoring to the power they can still manifest other powers of perform purely mental actions.

[Edit] Follow-up question [/edit]

Assuming the character had good craft (Weaponsmith) or Craft (Armorsmith) could they assume the form of a suit of armor, shield, or weapon? If so, could they be enchanted with spells that target weapons and armor (such as Magic Vestments or Metaphysical Weapon)?

[/Edit]

Thanks!

The same overriding limitation to Polymorph Self applies to Metamorphosis: the manifester has to be familiar with the object he is turning into. So you can't turn into substance X if you have never seen substance X. Depending on how tightly your DM holds the reigns on this power, you may or may not allow you to turn into an armored suit of substance X if you had never seen an armored suit of substance X, your familiarity limited to just a coin of substance X and an armored suit of substance Y.

The character in question could have ranks in Knowledge (Metals) and Craft (Armorsmith) if necessary. So I take it the answer is yes, if the character is familiar with the material in question.

I don't think I (as the DM) would require that the character have actually seen a suit of Adamantium Full Plate in order to become a suit of adamantium Full Plate, so long as they were familiar with adamantium, and Full Plate armor.

Of course, a successful Craft roll would be necessary.

What would be a good DC for knowing about adamantium and obdurium?

In DnD, every mundane metal is given a hardness of 10. It isn't realistic, but I guess it's balanced.

So yes, if your character knows about a metal, they can turn into it (they'll always have the same hardness). If you use a more realistic system, they can turn into any metal they are familiar with that has a hardness of less than 15.

Yes, you can turn into armor or weapons, even masterwork if you make the check ;) Since you're a creature, I wouldn't let the shaper put a Metaphysical Weapon on you. However, if you can manifest Metaphysical Body (new power; see my sig) then go ahead and do so.

The power prevents you from turning into mithral or adamantium - ever. Ferroplasm is also right out (even the liquid form).
