MichaelSomething's 4E Comeback special

June 2 and June 9th. 6:15 pm EST to 10:15 pm EST (ish)
Discord, Microphone, and Roll 20 required
4th Edition D&D
Paging @EzekielRaiden

Since we're all arguing about 4E, why don't we go play some?
As you know, Enworlders are among the greatest players ever to throw the dice, so you should leap at the chance to play together.
Unlike some lesser DMs who would simply throw a game at players without understanding what they want, I decided to ask about what type of game you would want.

I could just run a Living Forgotten Realms adventure, or even a Goodman Games Adventure! I could homebrew something. Would people prefer a wide open sandbox type game?

How comfortable are you with me homebrewing stuff? Do people want the "genuine" 4E experience or are they fine with me being more creative?

Do people want to create their own characters from the book or should I provide them characters? If providing, can I be more creative or just make something out of the book?

I'm cool with homebrew, but have no problem if other prospective players would prefer the purist experience. (I swear I'm not trying for consonance here.)

This is probably a premature situation for looking at Zeitgeist, but I have long wanted to play it, and actually managed to keep myself spoiler-free unlike my usual insatiable curiosity. This is more a future hope than a current expectation.

I definitely prefer to create my own character. I'm happy to adjust to party needs if others are keen on something specific class-wise, but if we aren't in dire need of something else, I'd really like to see where Paladin goes at higher levels. (Obviously dragonborn, that was never in question.)

Two other bits I quite like stand out, one more default than the other. First, the Ghost from the Past theme, which is from very late 4e. It's all about History, one of my favorite skills, and comes with a natural story to it (a knight out of time, in this case, who knew the world when it was full-bright, and thus sees the world as it should, or at least could, be). The other, which technically requires house ruling, is being able to take the Call Celestial Steed power as a regular Paladin rather than only as a Cavalier. Originally it was a levelled power, so any Paladin could take it, but they stealth errata'd it to be levelless and thus unavailable to regular Paladins. I just love the mechanics, and the feats that make it better are terribly cool (celestial battle tiger! Silver friggin dragon at Epic!!)

Apart from those two things I'm happy to roll with most any rules, default or modified.

I've said it elsewhere, but if you're running Zeitgeist, it's a really good idea to skip/heavily modify the introductory skill challenge, which essentially forces the players to engage in profiling and is about the worst thing they'll be asked to do as constables. Really crushes the "fantasy detectives" vibe for "worst kind of cops" and is weirdly out of character for the rest of the adventure.

I do not have Zeitgist (or however you spell it) or War of the Burning Sky. And while I am open for it to become an ongoing thing, don't buy the cart before the horse. My Sundays already have a gaming group. It's pausing for two weeks cause one is going on vacation. Hence, this.

Understood. As stated, future hope rather than current expectation.

My days are open except Monday and Tuesday, where I already have games.

Never used Discord or Roll20, but you know what: screw it I'll learn! Thinking I might want to play a Wilden Warden but I'm gonna take a look at the Invoker and see if I might not try a Controller for the first time.

To answer your questions, any adventure you feel comfortable with I'm fine, same with you coming up with stuff. For characters I'd rather make one from the book myself.

If I end up playing an Invoker instead of a Warden I'd like to know what gods are available in advance.
