Micronauts d20

Brett I'm pretty sure the Micronauts were available in stores before the S.W. action figures were. Not that it's that big of a deal. And G.I. Joe was a team even way back in the day of the "dolls".
Plodnik to answer your question I don't think it would be too hard to convert the Acroyears, from the comic they are a race of stern warriors, very lawful with some VERY tough armor, we might could base their stats on D&D Hobgoblins( a similarly warlike, tough race). Biotron will indeed require some work but he shouldn't be too hard. I think the Darwin's World ; Metal Gods sourcebook should be helpful, it's supposed to have rules for Android PC's including Feats. If memory serves Biotron even had some telepathic abilities (at least with Commander Rann, in the original comics)
Well for anyone who is interested I just started up a Micronauts d20 Mailing list..

I am pretty sure the Micronauts figures were around before Star Wars. They did start off in Japan after all... and are known there as "Microman". They might have been called something else before that... Anyway they have anime of Microman... never saw them, but it didn't look very good. Loved Golden's (well I guess it was actually Mantlo) Micronauts...

Ahhhhhh., Micronauts.

I always loved 'em (the comic that is - the toys never appealed to me Star Wars addict that I am :D ).

Michael Golden/Bill Mantlo were really the 'heyday' of Micronauts and each artist/writer combo seemed to pale against them IMHO(although Mantlo wrote most of the 60 issue run of the first series of Micronauts IIRC).

I still have the glossy reprints they did of those first 12 issues as well as the last 10 issues of the orignal series.

That final run of issues 50-60 was the second best storyline of the whole series - they really ended it with a bang (then started the 'New Voyages' which I never cared for).

A Micronauts d20 game could be simulated with Dragonstar but I think it would need its own treatment to really capture the 'flavour' of the setting.

As far as a new Micronaut comic goes - I will have to check it out (although with no Bug I dunno - anyone know what other characters had to be left out due to licensing - that seems wierd though - when was the last Micronaut toy/comic sold? 1988?)

The new Image Micronauts comic sucks, sucks, sucks. Generic art, hackneyed story. No Bug, Arcturus Rann, Marionette... Baron Karza is referred to as "Lord Karza" (WTF?) and doesn't show up until the last page of issue #1. It's just one more reminder that you can never go home again... :(

The original Micronauts comics (especially #1-12, which were basically the main storyline begining to end) were incredible. Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden teamed up to create one of the best comics in history. Micronauts came out as a comic in 1978, BTW, though I think the toys were on US shelves before that. I had the Acroyear (red) and Prince Shaitan (blue Acroyear) figures as well as Reptos, Antron and the sick looking monster with the Dracula fangs and removable orange brain that looked like an afro (forgot his name, but he was my favorite of the three Micronauts monsters). I still have my Force Commander figure, but lost Andromeda, Baron Karza's horse (you could interchange the Force Commander and Karza figures with those of their horses to make them into centaurs with rocket launchers mounted on their backs!).

Oh. that doesn't sound promising at all. *sigh* I think you may be right.

micronauts vs. starwars

I remember having epic battles between my micronauts and my brother's starwars figures. He had numbers, but I had more heavy weapons. I'll have to find what box those guys are in, give me an excuse to by starwars d20 rules.

toy-related question: should a micronauts d20 game take place before or after they glued in all the missles so they couldn't be fired. (comic people: did they work that into the plotline of later comic issues?)

Yea, that was when boys were men. we could shoot each other in the eye with our spring loaded darts.

By the way, Brutorz BILL you are wrong as usual, GI Joe was a member of the Adventure Team but his name was Joe.:p :p

Micronaut action figures and playsets definitely predate Star Wars. I clearly remember this, 'cause I was around then ;) Star Wars certainly didn't invent the action figure concept, but it sure made the concept explode in popularity.

I loved the comics, but only Michael Golden's run on them. Acroyear (the individual) still ranks as one of the coolest characters ever.

Dragonstar would be a good way to handle a conversion. Acroyears would have bonuses to strength and constitution, and penalties to wisdom and charisma. They'd need something else to balance them out, though, like ECL +1, maybe.

Michael Golden's run was the best, I agree. I think it was when the new "main" artist (not sure about the name) took over (around issue #19?) when things got good again. When he left, I left. The art got sloppy and the storylines couldn't hold up. The New Voyages were okay, but couldn't recapture the original series charm. This new Image bastardization just blows chunks. Though it's done "out of love" rather than corporate greed, it still stinks. In fact, it stinks even worse, because the people behind it are supposed to be fans of the original, and yet are churning out crap worse than anything Marvel ever tried to jam down our throats.

...And what the hell happened to Michael Golden? He did issue #38 of Star Wars (which was awesome!) and Rocket Racoon #1-4 (also fun) and then I never heard from him again. That guy had MAJOR TALENT, and a style all his own. Where is he now and why wasn't he more popular? His art (and Bill Mantlo's story) on Micronauts made me start collecting comics in the first place!
