Make sure you read the Shadow in the North chapter. It goes into some detail about Izrador, his nature, and his motivations. Once you've read that, if you still have questions, we'll be happy to answer them.

Got my copy at Games Plus last night. Very good read so far. Not gonna comment yet until I read it all and digest it. Altho I do think it is one of the better settings out there from what I have read so far.

Ditto what Greg said, a lot of that is answered in the Shadow from the North chapter.

I just picked it up today, very nice job on it. FFG really deserves big credit for this world, I think it easily rates as one of the top three campaign books I've seen.
