[Midnight] I resisted and resisted....

I picked up the setting book today after hearing nothing but good things about it. I may not get to use it for a while but I'm sure I'll enjoy reading it.

That's why I killed two birds with one stone and purchased directly from Fantasy Flight's website: they'll possibly ship faster (although I had to pay a dollar or two more for shipping), AND Fantasy Flight directly receives my cash-monies, which is important to me because I want to give them large bundles of my cold, hard, green cash monies.
Well, I just received the books today (my birthday, the 17th--thank you, thank you...please, just send cash).

Yummy goodness, Against the Shadow & Crown of Shadow are just ooozing with caramel and nougat and some other tasty stuff that I don't know how to spell.

I mean, really, how can you go wrong with this combo? Borrow a cupful of the Dark Sun concept, add generous amounts of Star Wars' themes of opression and rebellion, whip in huge dollops of "V for Vendetta" and "Batman"-style vigilante~ism (is that a word?), sprinkle liberally with some more-often-than-not good B&W pencil drawings, and finally, stir everything gently with fictional names of people and locations that are evocative of Tolkien...

Am I missing anything?

Yea, you forgot a cup of Nazi Germany with a tablespoon of Hitler. :D

Finally getting Crown of Shadow today. My FLGS got it in so I cancelled my Amazon.com order. I should be picking it up this evening.

Actually, I didn't emphasize how important Tolkien (specifically LotR) is on Midnight. The Shadow is very much a Sauron-like presence, and the elves remind me a LOT less of "fairies in boots" and a LOT more of how truly magical and...well...fey they were in Tolkien's world. The gloom and despair--hope hanging by a thin thread--of Midnight well reflects the feeling I had as I watched the end of The Two Towers, with Sauron's evil Unblinking Eye overlooking all of Mordor and oozing, practically seeping, into the western lands...

Earlier, Westwind mentioned Iron Kigdoms...

Suddenly, I'm getting warm-but evil tinglies...

Imagine an IK/MN crossover, with Lord Toruk bursting forth from Cryx with his horde of trollkin, dragon-tainted humanoids and monsters... the pollution of his presence corrupting Immoren as surely as the Black Mirrors drain Eredane's mana... renegade heroes, hunted by mechanical astiraxes creatures that sniff out both magic and gunpowder...

Don't you love the imagery of weary, harried freedom fighters clutching worn handgunnes, valiently defending the last strongholds of the free peoples from the dragon tyrannt's warjacks? I know I do.

(Hurries to gaming bookshelf, grabs MN Campaign Book and IK Character Primer, starts tearing pages out of both and stricking back together at random...)

edit : only my third ever post, and already the spelling mistakes require fixing...

Picked up Midnight, a great buy... I am loving it, next up is Against the Shadow, and Crown of Shadows... my only complaint is that my book is already kind of falling apart... kind of sucks... the binding is not that great :( But the book itself and content is stellar

Send an email to FFG's customer support. They'll replace your book no questions asked. I did that, and the copy I got in return was mint condition with a very sturdy binding.

Against the Shadow is great. It has several new Heroic Paths, Prestige Classes and Feats. There are also several new weapons and the wonderful herbalism rules as well as a bit more information regarding the races.

Crown of Shadow promises to be a great module. I've got the book, but we haven't got started in it yet. I ran a short intro adventure. Now we are going to go through the adventure in the back of the main book and that will lead us into Crown of Shadow.

Looks to be a blast. That intro adventure was quiet possibly the most fun I have ever had as DM.
