Midnight-Is it worth it?

First Post
OK, I'm pondering picking up the Midnight setting from FFG.

Is it worth it? I really like a lot of FFGs stuff but I'd still like to hear a bit more about it. How does the magic system work? What classes are available in it? How do the Heroic Paths work?

Heck yeah it's worth it! Basically, you choose a path at 1st level (cannot be changed) and you get abilities each level for that path.

It rocks!

What about the magic system? How does that work?

Magic:

Wizards are a prestige class.

Since the Big Bad Guy won, the only clerics are clerics of pure evil.

You can play a channeler and choose your casting attribute (WIS, INT, CHA) depending on the kind of channler you are. You gain access to some spells. But don't expect to be casting that magic missile until around level 7.

Sounds awesome. I need to pick this up.

What classes are available as base classes?

What about Prestige Classes?

Available classes are barbarian, fighter, rogue as per PHB, plus the three Midnight classes:

- Channeler (spontanoeus caster, spell point system);
- Defender (unarmed warrior without the supernatural nonsense a PHB monk gets but better BAB progression and better straight combat abilities)
- Wildlander (non-spellcasting ranger).

If you play Evil, there's also legates of the dark god (basically PHB clerics).

There's a number of prestige classes in the campaign setting book Midnight, the supplement Against the Shadow and (I think) the netbook Tome of Sorrows from www.againsttheshadow.org (great site if you want more MN specific info). Non-spellcasting prestige classes from other sources are generally also easy to integrate if you want to allow them.

In my SL opinion? Yes. :) Midnight is a great campaign setting. The magic system is very interestingly structured, and I certainly enjoy the low magic, high intrigue factor in the setting.

It's a good, fun setting, as long as you have players that understand the danger they will be getting themselves into by playing in it.
