Millions donated to help save Enterprise

I would donate to this style project if the following were met:

1. No commercials
2. No bonuses paid to actors, writers, producers etc
3. Actors and other professionals incomes were lowered to better reflect the incomes of the fans supporting the show
4. There was a guarentee that if X amount of money was earned, you would get another season

In the end I would never support such an effort, but without the above metioned items, it would be foolish to toss money at it. Is there a contingencty plan for the money if the show is not renewed, or does someone or some group get to pocket it?

After all, it is only a TV show. They come and go for a reason. Let it rest and find another program to enjoy.

Hehehe. Spoken like a true Hollywood-type tightwad producer. :]

What's next? All cast and crew must share one trailer? Limited number of bathroom breaks during production? Bloopers means wasted reel and possible employment termination?

You are locked for Boss of the Year. :p

Not gonna happen for $12 per season. One generally pays anywhere from $30 to $100 per season of a show now, after the advertising revenue has taken care of the production costs. If you want commercial-free DVDs up front, you'd better expect to pay a lot more, just like when you buy the DVDs now.

Let me clarify. I don't expect them to provide me with actual physical media for $12/season.

I expect some form of access to commercial free episodes

Ex1: $12/season gets me a subscription code for my cable box so I can watch the Enterprise channel.

Ex2: $12/season gets me access to a website where I can download the new episode each week.

While I won't hold the charity card over the people who donate to this effort, I will say that doing so doesn't reflect well on those individuals. Set aside for a moment the question of the show's quality (or really that of the franchise in general). Even for a show you like, is it healthy to be so attached to it?

Comparing it to other commercial transactions is misleading. A rational consumer would not pledge a dime on this venture unless they were atleast semi-sure that that contribution would result in a new season going to production. To feel a pressing obligation to do otherwise tells me something much more weird is at work in certain minds. Atleast charity donations are tax deductible. :)

You really can't see the problem with giving money to an already bloated franchise in the hope that they might churn out yet another season of a failed (and terrible) TV show?

Don't you see the problem with debating the matter as if everyone else whould share your opinions on the show? As if nobody should spend money on a thing unless you like it?

And does anyone think that they will get a sya in how such a show would turn out? If you do i have a beautiful bridge in brooklyn for you.

I don't recall that anyone here has suggested that they'd get a say in how it turned out. A few have said they'd not donate so long as particular producers were involved. Nobody here has suggested that they'd otherwise have any say.

That's the difference. With the DVD's I've already seen what I'm getting.

How many people buy hardcover novels each year without knowing much of what's going to be inside? They cost double or triple the estimate per person for a season of a TV show, for generally far fewer entertainment hours.

Think about that. Save the lives of one million children.

Yes, we all spend our discretionary income on whatever we want, but man, it sure seems like saving the lives of one million children is worth a lot more than a season of Enterprise.

Yeah. But if you think spending $30 million on a season of Enterprise makes little sense, think about how much Americans spend per day on a mediocre drink like coffee (IIRC, annual retail coffee sales are something over $6.7 billion annually). There's far sillier expenditures to catch your wonder and astonishment.

Why are you complaining how others spend/donate their money? It is their money if they want to spend on a bribe to save the show so what! If you think the money should be spend on nets for africans start your own web site and ask for donations.
What people do with their cash is no one elses business so get your nose out you Klingon cyclon traitor.

Well someone has to speak for those who won't speak for themselves.

.
You're right. Seeing things like 'I want a share of the prfits' and 'you can't use this person, or that person in making the show' etc made me think they wanted some creative control. i retract my statement.

$30 million would buy 10 million insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets for children in Africa. There are approximately 300 million to 500 million malaria episodes in Africa each year, with 1.5 million to 2 million deaths, mostly children. That $30 million could easily save the lives of 1 million children.

Think about that. Save the lives of one million children.

Can Africa handle 1 million more children?
