Min. Longitude polar to equator

I want to find a scale for my map. How could the length/longitude (N-S) for my continent be reaching from the cold north to the equator? Are there any geographic rules? How small could it be for a still realistic world? I thought about 1800 miles (3000 km), is this realistic?

What scaling do you have in your maps?

On earth, it's 4000 miles, give or take, from the equator to the arctic circle.

Depending on the region, it gets pretty damned cold for several months each winter if you only go about 3000 miles north from the equator.

My maps (at least the ones that involve whole continents) are generally about 6000 miles from top to bottom (from the arctic circle to about 30 degrees south), and 8000 or more east to west, because, generally, I want an area on the same scale as Eurasia.

I just checked a bit more exactly; the actual distance from equator to arctic circle is...

4,583.2 miles, +/- a quarter mile or so.
