Miniature Scale?

Just curious, trying to figure out what the sizes are for 'standard' minis. I believe they are for a 1"=5' 30mm or 25mm. I'm not sure what size the Chainmail mini's are, and neither for ReaperMini.com either. ReaperMini has two series: Dark Heaven and Warlord. It says Warlord is 25mm 'Heroic" scale, but it doesn't say what Dark Heaven scale is if it's smaller (after all, Warlord is 25mm 'Heroic'). I'm just not not sure which series (DH or Warlord) to pick up if there are size differences.

It looks to me that Dark Heaven Legends will probably be the choice at the moment since they have such a much larger selection to choose from, but knowing the size would be nice in advance.

I want to give my PCs with a XMAS gift of a minifig for their character and use Counter Collection for the NPCs :)

A lot of minis are 28mm scale. Also, at some point (in the eighties, IIRC) some companies began to measure minis in different ways, like from the top of the base to the top of the head, since not all bases are equally thick. So if you are combining some older minis with newer ones you may find that the older ones appear smaller. However, I think most 25mm and 28mm minis will work with one another fairly well, and I mix them with no regret. I do not mind having a nice range of heights in my humans and do not think anything under six foot tall should automatically be reserved for another race. The ones I have seen that are 30mm can always represent larger versions of their type, or in the case of sentient races, a people from lands where harsh conditions produce hardier stock, perhaps. :)

Thanks for the reply, I'll just assume their interchangable?

I just checked their entire stock and they don't have a Dwarf with a Halberd. Grrr ... one character I'm going to have to find somewhere, if anywhere.

Hm. Found it in the army packs, even though I don't really want four of them ... and their spears :P I'm picky ;D Closest there is though. I'll ask him.

Yeah, dwarves with halberds might be a tough find. Maybe you should ask for this to be moved over to the art forum where a lot of miniature painters might see it and be able to help. Any feelings about getting one and doing a conversion on it yourself? I suppose if this is a X-mas gift that there isn't time for that, though. I'll keep my eyes peeled if I'm surfing any minis' sites and post back if I find anything... :)

Well, not XMas gifts by XMas, just gifts that are meant for the Xmas occassion :)

Maybe I'll be lucky enough to find a 'base' dwarf with a halberd I can ... somehow ... glue on it.

I wouldn't normally suggest this, since it is so much fun just surfing minis' sites, but why not drop Ron Hawkins an Email at Ron@reapermini.com since he's in charge of Reaper's fantasy line. He might be able to steer you quickly to a solution considering how difficult it is to find. :)

The one mini I could never find for my younger brother was an orc in medium/heavy armor (preferably oriental), with two battle axes.

That really surprised me too, as I thought that wouldn't be all too weird for an orc mini...

Thanks for the e-mail link, I'll send him a query ... and are you a big miniature guy yourself, by any chance? :)
