Miniature Woes

Andrew D. Gable

First Post
My gaming group and I have recently begun to get into painting miniatures. We finally remembered to pick up a spray can of clear coat for them. However, it seemed that applying the clear coat caused the paints to run!

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a certain brand of clear coat you recommend, or a particular technique in which it should be applied?

Thanks.

I use Citadel matte varnish or the gloss and if the figures are dry they have never run on me. Are you useing the right kind of varnish? Maybe it's not for acrylic based paints or soemthing along those lines?

That's the brand I use as well, and I've experienced no difficulties either.

Not sure how to advise you, Mr. Gable. Could you post the brand and type of product? Maybe someone with a Chemisty background or more experience with paints will be able to help you with the added information. :)

I also recommend buying a gloss for the protective strength and then after that has dried finish with the flat coat. It really does give a stronger finish.

Hey man, I barely have time to play the game, let alone paint my minis. Time is money, so my money will have to substitute for time.

*Waves greenbacks in the air* :D

First question..what type of paints are you using? I typically use Citidel finish with no troubles. The gloss finish is stronger, then a matte finish over it dulls the glare. I'm kinda wondering if it's not your paints.
