I've actually been painting the eye white and adding the iris with a micron pen. Some of the ones I've done lately are a little raccoony, since I've been doing darker washes in the eye socket area, but I've just let them be. It makes them look a little meaner.
I've finished putting up pictures of all my old minis (at least the ones worth photographing). The current count is 125. If there are any discrepancies in manufacturer attribution, please let me know.
Just imagine that the phone is a digital camera. The backdrop is a piece of paper taped to an old computer. The "stage" is a piece of paper taped to a Zip disk case. I moved the camera to a distance where the flash wouldn't light the subject too harshly. Once everything's set up, it's just place mini, snap, turn, snap, rinse, repeat. Most of the hard work was done in Photoshop, where I cropped and joined the images. I actually ended up doing the cropping in iPhoto by the end of the process, which made it easier to open more images in Photoshop at once. The gallery itself is built with Blosxom, a lightweight blogging tool that is easily converted to a number of different uses.
Just one update to the page. This one was actually painted at the time of the last update, but I was waiting to post him until he made his appearance in the campaign. I have three more pirates ready for shading and highlighting, so they should be up fairly soon.
I only got the pen recently, mostly for doing eyes, though I've used it for a few other bits of detail work. Everything else is done with a brush. I usually don't get to buy minis very often, so doing excessively intricate patterns helps the painting last longer. And it's fun.
