I've actually been painting the eye white and adding the iris with a micron pen. Some of the ones I've done lately are a little raccoony, since I've been doing darker washes in the eye socket area, but I've just let them be. It makes them look a little meaner. :)

I like that look too.

Have you had any problems with the pen ink fading? I had to redo all the eyes in my older miniatures I used this technique on.

Nice update BTW

Well, since I only started using it about a week ago, I haven't had a chance yet to find out. :D

Pixie - very cool mini and a great paint job.

The cape on Oskar Dunmesser kicks major booty!

Another thing that really impresses me about this gallery is the photography. Awesome job! Any hints on how you do it?

Here's my setup:

Just imagine that the phone is a digital camera. :) The backdrop is a piece of paper taped to an old computer. The "stage" is a piece of paper taped to a Zip disk case. I moved the camera to a distance where the flash wouldn't light the subject too harshly. Once everything's set up, it's just place mini, snap, turn, snap, rinse, repeat. Most of the hard work was done in Photoshop, where I cropped and joined the images. I actually ended up doing the cropping in iPhoto by the end of the process, which made it easier to open more images in Photoshop at once. The gallery itself is built with Blosxom, a lightweight blogging tool that is easily converted to a number of different uses.

Great gallery. I love the striped pants on the pirates and some of the checker patterns. DO you use a pen or a brush when doing that?

Thanks!

I only got the pen recently, mostly for doing eyes, though I've used it for a few other bits of detail work. Everything else is done with a brush. I usually don't get to buy minis very often, so doing excessively intricate patterns helps the painting last longer. And it's fun. :)
