Miniatures Projects 2003

Well it's going to be a long year of building, painting, converting, etc. I've set up my miniatures projects pages and your advice is most welcome. There are older miniatures that I need to identify, newer figures that could benefit from your painting input, and lots of other items that could use some suggestions. Please check out the pages by clicking here.

Hey Mark,

I id'ed a couple of your miniatures in your unknown category:

Dwarf with Axe is from Milton Bradley's Heroquest - a joint effort with GW.

Fighter with sword & Sack is from Heritage miniatures.

Goblin Wolf Rider is from Milton Bradley's Battlemaster - another joint effort with Games Workshop.

A few of the unknowns look like Metal Magic, a German figs company that went out of business a few years ago. I only have a passing familiarity with them so I'm not positive enough to ID those minis.

Thanks! I'll make the adjustments to those figures placement and look into Metal Magic. Maybe I can find some pictures online to identify them... :)

How's the formatting of the pages work out for you?

The pages look great I can't imagine what a daunting task that must have been. I had no problem cruising through things and enjoyed your in-progress pics of the Wiz Kids figure.

I find that I must correct myself: I have learned that Hobby Products, that produced metal magic figures, is still in business. They no longer make fantasy figures at this time, but the molds have been sold to Discount Hobby USA and the figures are available again. Unfortunately, the price is doubled from the old days.

Good luck with your project!

Edit: Most of the early Metal Magic figures are unavailable, but the latter stuff that was really good is back. Be forewarned, the figures are true 25s.

Thanks for the update on the figures. :)

Glad you like the format of the site's minis' pages. It was a bit of work but I think it makes the pages so much more useful, and moreso in the long run as I complete project after project throughout 2003! :D

Using 25mm and 28mm, and even 30mm figures along side one another never bothers me. It makes for a nice size range of the people. ;)

Oh I quite agree. Naturally it's a matter of convenience for me as I have many figures over 20 years old. Many of the humans I use in my campaigns are Games Workshop pre-slotta bases. Heck you cannot even get miniature manufacturers to agree what a scale is.

I think that lack of agreement stems from a few different goals. One may be that they think if someone has some of their minis, they may avoid others that are not of the same scale or do not fit in with their others because of the base sizes. I'm sure one reason for the larger sizes of the figures is the ease of painting them and being able to justify charging a bit more since there is tangibly more material involved in their making. For my part, as said, I'm not that picky... ;)

do know you can strip the latex paint from a mage knight with acetone?

Taking factory paint off a mage knight /heroclix.

I found a reliable way to take the paintjobs wizkids slaps on their minis. Acetone, nail polish removers main ingredient will remove the latex paint wizkids uses on their latex minis. Beauty supply stores sell acetone in quarts [$ 4us ] and gallons[$10 us][I buy in gallons]

Best way to do it [this causes the least damage to the fig]is take a close-able glass jar with a lid, fill jar with acetone 1/3 full. [the more minis you plan to clean the more acetone you will need]

Drop in a few mage Knights WITHOUT THEIR BASES! Cut away all of the hard plastic base. Acetone will swiftly destroy bases! Also I DO NOT know what acetone does to the solonavi clear green plastic! th plastic of the bases becomes a damnable mess if it gets into the acetone.

Close jar tightly and swirl the mage knight in the [quickly darkening] acetone. Give the minis a good spin cycle. [spin them around quickly]You will start to see the paint falling off the mage knight revealing the figure beneath.

Now take the figs out of the acetone, you will see they will have soften and expanded THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY! If the figure is clean enough for you wash it off and let it dry for a week. Not clean yet ? if the are is a crevice heavy one like a face; scrub with old toothbrush with the acetone. If the mage knight has a full layer of paint left then throw it back into the now blackened acetone. Repeat the process.

oh BTW you might want to find some of the newer singles of some of those mage knights. www.pjccmall.com has some good prices.

MK5 #035 Feral Bloodsucker - standard: this guy is on sale for 39 cents. ILike this guy beacause he reminds me of the drow vampire from D2 Vault of the Drow, now to find him a succubus girlfriend...

I have quite a few of this guy and will use some DC heroclix manbats to add to the ranks when i deploy them as a Unit Vs. my pc's.

Wirlwind's thorn crawler makes a great ankheg if you dont mind a centipideic look.
