Missile and melee weapon combo?

Is it legal to do the following:

Take a full attack action with a missile weapon;
Quick-draw a melee weapon into the 'off' hand;
Use a haste partial action to attack with the melee weapon defensively to gain an AC bonus for the following round

If your DM were to allow you to qualify for the Fighting Defensively combat maneuver by wielding a melee weapon for the hasted action only, (which I wouldn't), then yes.

However, you have to declare Fighting Defensively at the start of your turn, and all attacks take the -4 penality. This would include the ranged attacks as well.

That seems like a reasonable compromise.

Now what about using Expertise with the melee weapon (which you can't use with missile weapons by the Feat description....)?

Yes, you can use Expertise on the partial action.

Mind you, all of this will be rendered redundant when 3.5E gets rid of partial actions, whether from haste or anywhere else. Which can't come soon enough, IMO.

Has there been any ruling about mixing-and-matching weapons in a full attack sequence,, then?

Even without haste granting an extra partial action, theoretically a character with Quick-draw and +12/+7/+2 BAB could, as a full-attack action, attack twice with a bow, drop the bow and take a third attack (possibly with Expertise and/or fighting defensively) with a quick-drawn melee weapon.

Couldn't she?
