Missing an eye

Well, I can give you the 'real life' scoop, as I am a one eyed person.
First off, the ranged attack penalty is completely wrong. Normal depth perception is done via visual clues (shadows, size etc) for everything out past 5-10 feet. Depth perception close up is more accurate because your brain decifers the differences between the 2 separate images of two eyes. Out 10', the two eyes have pretty much the same image and thus, no differences to determine depth.
Melee combat on the other hand is another matter altogether. This is where you need 2 eyes to determine depth. The std -2 penalty should apply.
Spot checks should also get a -2 in general, unless you want to take the blind side into effect and be specific.

Specific DMG changes: No means not true, Yes, means accurate penalty.
It inflicts a -2 penalty to Appraise (NO), Craft (NO), Decipher Script (NO), Disable Device (YES), Forgery (NO), Open Lock (NO?), Search (YES), Sense Motive (wtf NO), Spellcraft (NO), and Spot checks (YES). Also Survival checks for tracking (YES), and most things based on Dex (Reflex saves (NO), ranged attacks (NO), initiative (NO), and raw dex checks (Perhaps in certain circumstances).

Here's some real life situations:
I lost my eye when I was 20 years old.

Negative
It's harder to run through the woods across rocks and tree limbs as sometimes I miss-gage close distances and step too far to reach rocks etc. Catching a small ball thrown "at" me is harder than one thrown a little bit to the side. Grabbing items handed to me, I sometime don't reach far enough or too far. I occasionally bump my shoulder into door jambs. Oh, and the stupidest bugger, I can't watch 3D movies. Other than some occupations, that's pretty much the only thing I can't do.
Positive
I drive perfectly fine, though I use my one mirror more than most. I can walk, run and climb easily. Since I became a cyclops I have become a professional silver smith (jewelry and sculpture), I did sword fighting in both the SCA and Live action role playing. I shoot rifles, shotguns, pistols, paintballs, archery and knives just as accurately as before I became cyclops. Honestly, aside from a few minor annoyances, I rarely even think about it, as things really don't look any different at all. Just take an extra 5 foot step away from me if we're playing hacky sack <G>.

That's how it is for me, hope it helps.
