Mithril Shirt Question

Err. I'm pretty sure mithral chain is just chain mail made from mithral, a fantastic (but nonmagical) metal. The SRD for a mithral chain shirt:

Ah, my apologies if you so interpreted my post. You could wear a magical robe and a nonmagical mithral shirt without any problems. If the mithral shirt is also magical, though, you could only benefit from the magical bonus of the mithral shirt or the robe.

I would like to pose it this way: There is a limit of 2 magical rings worn. Does that preclude wearing nonmagical rings? Of course not. I can wear as many rings, magical or not, as I like as long as I only want magical benefits from 2 of them.

Yes, but you've got 10 fingers to wear them on.

A better analogy would be... If I'm wearing a Hat of Disguise, can I wear a non-magical helmet (or crown, or headband, or tiara, or wig, or whatever) at the same time? Technically, yes you can, but it quickly gets silly. You have to draw the line somewhere.

So, while technically, yes you feasibly could wear a suit of armor and a robe (especially if it was tailored roomy enough) at the same time, game-mechanics-wise you can't. Get yourself a cloak, a tabard or a vestment that has the same enchantment instead.

Remember, almost all magical robes are designed to benefit arcane spellcasters who can't wear armor anyway.

Why?

None of them provide any benefit. I'd say let the players do it.
