Yeah, I didn't get it. Maybe the defensive recharge power is to "motivate" him lurking around, but I am not convinced yet. Maybe the tactics section will make more sense?

Yeah, most lurkers have a power that lets them bugger off (incorporeal) or become really hard to hit (gargoyles) or similar (bugbear strangler's human shield ability). The Iron Dragon gets an incentive to hide until Iron Wing Defense recharges, and then move in, hit and move out and wait for recharging again.

We'll see...

As a lurker I guess that's the best this iron dragon can hope for - try to engage the PCs while Iron Wing Defense is up, then get out of combat until it recharges and re-enter the battlefield in an advantageous position. Seems pretty lousy to me, unfortunately.

*edit* Although, if you give the iron dragon a good environment for sneaking I suppose he could fit the lurker role well enough. Say, something like foggy tunnels or thick forest, where he can retreat to total concealment & make Stealth checks. Still underwhelming...

I like the warforged resounder! He seems more like a controller than an artillery monster but I like him all the same.

While I know that ability scores are hardly relevant for monsters in 4E, I just can't grok a huge dragon having a strength of 19. However, on that path lies arguments about gamist vs simulationist and that, in turn, leads to the dark side....

I like the iron golem but I find the bizarre feet of both the iron golem and clay golem very odd. Does anyone know if the picture is by Jeremy Jarvis? I'm having shocking flashbacks to some of his 3.5E pictures of yuan-ti and related creatures and it is not pleasant.

No, the idea is that you don't need things you don't fight. (What I call Diablo world design. If it moves, kill it).

Amen.

But that would force some DMs think about motivation. Some DMs I know would have problem trying to figure out a campaign outside the traditional "you are good guys, kill the bad guys because they are evil".

Thats why 4E has no good guys other than the PCs (and one mount).
Derren, the idea is that you don't need STATS for things you don't fight.

Anyway, why have you two got to be on about this in every thread? We know you don't like 4E, but why do you need to provoke?

Some of want to fight things that are considered "good" aligned, or throw them at the players, thank you very much :|

Because the entire point is to provoke people. He knows every time, at least one someone will bite.

It really doesn't seem like provoking to me. It seems relevant -- the chromatic dragon is unaligned, and this is a change from the way things had been done, and so it is a change, and a change in the game is certainly a valid topic for discussion. That this change represents a design philosophy in 4e doesn't make the dissent less valid.

I mean, if he's provoking, then so is everyone who posts "I love how the new dragon is unaligned, so I can actually have PC's fight it!"
