Mobile Blade Stance question

The Slayer's mobile blade stance states
Whenever you hit an enemy with a basic attack using a weapon, you can move a number of squares up to your dexterity modifier as a free action.
Is there any errata making this a shift? Or, am I reading this correctly, and basically anytime you hit a target and move, you'll be drawing OAs?

You are correct - that slayer will be drawing attacks of opportunity.

However, that seems like something to give to a heavy blade slayer with expertise, which gives you +2 AC in those situations... combine with Defensive Mobility and/or a halfling and you can boost that a fair bit.

And/or place said slayer next to a defender to punish said enemy for attacking the slayer.

IMHO, that is a power I would only select for a particular party & build, but within that it would perform very well. Its also good as a "finish him" maneuver to then move to a new target.

Thanks.

I'm making pregens for some newbs, and I don't want to give them a power that's going to "punish" them with getting attacks. It might seem sort of a trap to the newbs. Something that's better for a more critical, tactical eye.

One of my players is a Dex based slayer. When he pulls out his longbow and shoots you, he hits like a truck (thanks to double dex), then moves 6 squares further away. Then does a normal move action. So every turn he is putting 12 squares between himself and the enemy. Depending on terrain, this ability is simply an "I Win" button.

When he does close in, he pulls out his Gouge, and power attacks. This knocks the enemy prone. He then moves his 6 squares straight over the fallen foe and moves through into the enemies back lines.

With the ability to swap weapons as a minor action, he can also swap to his greatspear and attack from reach 2, then back out and hide behind the knight again. He can move through friendly spaces and they cannot. So depending on the map, he can avoid most all retaliation unless they provoke from a the knight (bad idea, he he pushes 4 on a hit).

All three of these great uses can be swapped between on a whim thanks to the Slayer's quickdrawing ability.

This ability certainly has its uses.

Hmmh, even at level 1 he could easily move 10 squares with dex 20 and scale armor and attack... which would actually be good enough to kite an enemy for quite a while...

Good lord, Unwise what level is this character?

I think the character in question is 8 by memory. I think you get the quick draw at level 5. The knock prone on power-strike soon after that.

The premise is the same for any Dex based slayer though, even from level 1. They just can't knock prone or swap weapons as quickly.

P.S. You don't wear scale as a Dex-Slayer, light armor is the way to go, so you keep the high movement.

------

P.P.S. Off topic now, but I thought I would share just how nasty this character is at higher levels (all from memory, so a bit hazy):

- Being dex based, he does not care about strength, so that frees up stats to actually be smart and charismatic etc.
- Auto-qualifies for Surprising Charge, so with a gouge hits for 4d6 brutal 1 + lots.
- Eladrin Soldier gives bonus damage plus access to Greatspear and Gouge for the one feat, very cool as mentioned above.
- All the regular charge abuse (horned helmet, vanguard gouge, bracers, bezerker badge, charging stance etc), plus using a spear for extra oomph with expertise.
- Multiclass into Swordmage, +1 AC for an encounter
- Eladrin Swordmage advance (Free MBA when you Feystep next to somebody)
- Fey Charger (Use Feystep as part of a charge, don't expend it if you hit)
- Headsmans Chop at higher levels. So charge in with teleport for massive damage, knock prone with powerstrike, free MBA at +5 damage and CA.
- If I allowed Windport Rise theme, he would also be MC Rogue, getting the feat to allow CA on anybody alone. So will almost always charge with CA as he does not provoke doing so. As it is, he teams with a hunter that just knocks them prone (hello two MBAs with Headsmans chop)

MBA based classes can get really broken.
