Modern Party consists of?

Crothian

First Post
Okay, in a fantasy game a party ususally has the Cleric, the Fighter, the Rogue, and the Wizard. THis is large considered a balanced party and many groups try to make sure that all of these archtypes are present in some way.

However, in a modern game (using d20 modern of course) what do you feel are the types of characters that would be needed for a balanced group?

Here's what I've come up with:
1) Computer Expert: Computers, electronics, technical stuff, sooping up cars, searching the net, breaking incriptions, hacking, etc.
2) Tough Guy: The guy who can wade into a crowd of bad guys and kick butt.
3) Sharpshooter: Not nessicarily a sniper, but a gun expert in both shooting as well as knowledge.
4) Face Man: The person to do all the talking, negotiote with criminals, talk there way out of a crime, or other non violent interaction.
5) Wheel Man: Vehicle Expert

Other tpyes I thought of but not sure how needed they would be are the medic, the invistagotor, and a stealthy person. Obviously a character can easily cover more then one area, and there are thousanbds of concepts that can be fit into each suggestion.

So, what do you feel are the needed area in the modern game?

Good question, Crothian.

I'd say you'd need a group with Tough, Smart, Dedicated, and Charismatic, before multiclassing. Factoring in multiclassing, maybe Tough/Strong, Smart, Dedicated, and Charismatic/Fast. That roughly translates to Fighter, Mage, Cleric, and Rogue in my book.

That, of course, assumes skill are well distruted (Smart has Comp Use, Cha/Fast has Drive, etc.).

Well, as someone on this Board said -
Even the A-Team had a face.

The term is very useful, and somehow, everybody knows what "face" means. (Maybe everybody knows the A-Team ;) )

Too bad the A-team was a kids show and really didn't need a "sharpshooter". They also has their "Smart Guy" being the man with the plan. And who didn't love it when a plan came together?

I'm curious as to how much the A-team inspired d20 Modern. It was the ultimate adventure party in the modern world. And who hasn't seen it?

edit: Darn it, I can't get that A-Team music out of my head now!

Seems about right. Dedicated seems like the strongest class to me, closely followed by the other 5. :D Dedicated multiclasses well with Tough, Strong, and Fast, Smart and Charismatic go well with Fast, Fast/Tough and Fast/Strong and Tough/Strongs make good tanks.

I think that Modern parties will be a lot like those in DnD: a jack-of-all-trades, a tank or two, and then the Mage or Computer Guy.

Most of the classes are highly versatile so I'm not too worried about what classes make a party. I was also trying to stay away from that so it would be a General Forum threadas this could have potention in any modern game, not just d20 Modern.
