D&D General Modrons invented Rune Magic?

and well. just found out this. The giant deity Annam All-Father acquired the secret of rune magic for his people from a high-ranking modron by winning a game of lots about a thousand years after the giants' Thousand Year War against the dragons.[16]

I am fact checking this is because this seems surreal

How the heck would Modron Rune Magic even work? Open to any and all suggestions.

I don't think Modron Rune Magic is ever mentioned in Planescape. Really, Planescape only has a couple sprinkles of 'runes' at all.....mostly 'official D&D runes'.

Runes do make sense as 'Lawful Magic"

This is stimlating my mind.

1. considering that in most mytih, runes are earned by impaling yourself to the tree of yggrissil, this means that the tree is made up of insane numbers of modrons.
2. I remember an old doctor who episode where math was the secret of the universe. Modrons figured that out a long time ago. they showed Annam after the win, but he had to turn it into pictures to make it culturally useful.
3. This reminded me of the old 2e tome of magic and te cleric sphere of numbers. you could also include law and time and whammo: math wizard .
4. I can steal from advanced quantum mechanics for spells and say the modrons made them.

I've thought for quite awhile that runes should be included in the Artificer's object oriented magic wheelhouse.

Artificer and runes seem like they go well. Seems like a clear path from giantish-runes to Artificer

Runes Knight -> Artificer (Armorer) -> Artificer (other) -> ?Runic Caster?

So what would be the "pure caster" variant?

Modruns are the repair force of the universe. thier Rune magic could be a form of older magic akin to words of creation. Used to assist with the constant repair the universe needs when messy wars and conflicts or even adventurers stuffing bags of holding in portable holes to rip holes in the universe. I think of them as the road Crew of the universe. once the repair is finished no runes left to see. if you got to watch the repair theyd be working the runes into thier repairs or construction and as they finish theyd set into the job.

I think Modron magic would be based more on mathematics and geometry.
