Moments you live for in D&D gaming

from the prone

3rd level cleric (1/2 orc of St. Cuthbert, domains STR and Destruction).

snuck attack by flying outsiders at night and knocked prone.

declare, "No, I won't stand and provoke, I'll attack from the prone."
declare Smite attack and strength domain boost. teammate bard had begun singing.

crit from the prone for 39. still don't kill it, give judge look of "you really suck"
Judge replies, "you feel as if a very small portion of your considerable damage didn't get through ..."

wow... love it.

At the end of the night, when the players ask when the next game is.

When we get off on a tangent and I end up laughing so hard, the back of my head hurts the rest of the night.

Tonight my 19th lvl party spent more than an hour trying to figure out why a block of moldy cheese couldn't be identified. We laughed until we banged our heads on the table. I love that kind of game.

I hope they remembered to have it properly deactivated some time later. Otherwise... three words: integer wrap around. Now that's what I call a millennium bug...

Bwahahaha! Good point! But I'm pretty sure the Republic had experts who could dispose of it properly. ;) I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the Elysium Planititia Museum of History at this point.

What do I love about gaming?

When my GM says something my character's wife says, in character, without telling me who said it, and I recognise her by voice.

The fact that I can often tell who's speaking, based on the voice my GM uses, at all.

When something in game happens that makes me cry.

When I do something in game that makes me cry. I gave a speech one time, and my voice cracked repeatedly, while tears dripped off my chin. The other players were in awe. Good game.

When I suggest a plot twist, or a character development to my GM, and his pupils dialate.

When DnD spontaniously becomes a Live Action game, and not in the violent way.

God I love this game, and God I love my group. Even if it is only a 3 person group at the moment.

I love it when we can't even start the current game because everyone is telling stories about what happened in previous games.

I love the awful feeling I get in the pit of my stomach when I *know* that the DM has something up her sleeve, but she hasn't given out enough clues yet; she's just slowly unweaving the plotline until it's long enough for us to hang ourselves upon.

I love coming up with a great character hook that excites new ways to play. [how about human who inexplicably ages 3 times faster than others / forced to mature before he's ready, but with a heart 3 times as big]

I love the seemingly mundane stories where there is something magical/mysterious/disturbing going on just a little deeper.

I love the games where we run our DM ragged; not because he was ill prepared, but because we decided our own ideas were far more fun. ["It's such a BIG orc encampment. I'm sure no one would miss a few orc children. Then we could raise them to not be evil!"]

I love it when I can look around the room and know that sitting around playing D&D has lead to real friendships.

When one of the players look at me and see I've got a smile from ear to ear, and I hear them say "Jason's smiling" with a trembling voice, because they know something bads gonna happen. By the By my smile gets bigger at that point.
