Mongoose gets Babylon 5 license

From the press release:

"without a doubt, Babylon 5 is the greatest science fiction epic yet created."

Clearly, a press release writer has been taking hyperbole lessons.

It will be interesting to see though.

Well... I'll play Devil's Advocate.

An epic usually involves a hero engaging in a long over-arcing struggle or journey; said struggle/journey is usually beyond the ordinary in size and scale.

Star Trek isn't epic, though it's interesting at times, and has had some great, perhaps Epic, moments.

Star Wars? Hm, though big and successful, you have to buy into the claim that it's all "Darth Vader's story" to make it fit the Epic mold. Though the first trilogy may be cool, and may be Luke's epic, the whole thing suffers from the years that passed between the trilogies, and changes in direction that occured on Lucas' part.

Babylon 5, at the very least, has a claim to "greatest science fiction epic" at least for a TV series. Whether it's de facto the greatest is probably a matter of taste, really.

I've spent enough cash to qualify as a real fan. Anyone who thinks intoning the rather dumb sounding (IMO) "BAB5" makes them a real fan is just a poseur. :)

No kidding. B5 - BAB5. I see no difference, and I've been a fan since the beginning.

Does anyone know if it will be set up with d20 Modern and the upcoming d20 Future in mind. If not, it will only be worth source material for me.

Why?

Not challenging your decision I'm just curious. I make a case by case decision. For me for example spycraft beats d20 modern at the moden era so I use it over d20 modern. I don't jsut automaticaly go with the wizards method of dealing with a genre.

And to answer your question I'm guessing no its not eprfectly compatible with d20 modern or future. Its still d20 so its going to be compatible to a degree, but they said they bent the d20 system to fit the B5 setting.

Why? I don't want to be to rude, so let's just say I don't care for much of Mongoose's stuff.

That's cool, I got one mongoose thing and its kept me from getting other mongoose things on a sort of moral ground. (if I'm remembering companies correctly) And haven't wanted to buy anything else since then. But I'm a sci-fi freak, so I was mighty tempted to break my ban for judge dread, and now for B5.
