Mongoose in 2004 - Long!

Sounds like an impressive lineup. I hope they do not come out in that order though as the Book of Immortals has me excited already. :D

Upper_Krust will be annoyed - assuming it's not his Immortals Handbook that he has laboured on oh these many years...

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing...

Also... I also want GRIDDED MAPS for the uber-adventure! And downloadable! And NOT IN COLOR! They look pretty, but not very useful when you want to print them out or modify things...

Can't wait!

If it is outstanding!!! :D if its not… Well I’m always happy to have different opinions. I have more than a few books that deal with the Undead, dragons, etc so a few epic books, and or beyond, would be sweet. :)

Ya know, this is all great, but I've now learned that the Slayers Guides and the Encyclopedia Arcane series will both be cancelled. Those are the only two series I get on a regular basis from Mongoose at the moment and they're being cancelled!!! There's plenty of volumes that could be added to both series so it can't be that they're out of ideas. What is it really Matt?

I'm taking an educated guess here.

It's the size. As I've mentioned on a few other threads, as a reviewer, I see a lot of product. As a gamer, I see what my friends buy. They don't buy 32 or 64 page books, but 96-128 or larger books. The price differences are one of hte key things. Take a 32 page module running $11. For twice the price, you can get three-four times the content.

Another reason is that Mongoose is probably updating the material to go more inline with their current material. The Quintessentail Chaos Mage is probably a good example of this. I'm sure they could do the same thing with Necromancers or even Demonologist.

Same here, I’ll get both books along with Kerrick’s line of “Legendary” books and any other Epic book that comes out.

Hi S'mon! :)

Not at all, I already told Matthew I was looking forward to his book over on the Mongoose boards last week - when he revealed it. In fact I would go as far as saying its the book I am most looking forward to 'reading'.

No its not.

But I had hoped now that the Epic Level Handbook had entered the SRD that we would see a number of Epic/Immortal products over the course of the year. I may be writing 'the book I always wanted to read', but I have to say knowing whats already in it takes away something of the surprise factor for me - so thats something I'll be looking for in this book from Mongoose (and hopefully a few others).

Basically, there is a limit to how many books even we can produce every month and we all believe that the Slayer's Guides and Encyclopaedias have both enjoyed a hell of a run.

On the other hand. . .

One idea I have been toying with is letting other people use the Slayer's Guides, Encyclopaedias and other old Mongoose series, and perhaps even sub-licencing supplements for our older licenced games.

All these books still reguarly sell more than enough to build a viable business plan around and support a small games company. Some of their fans are very loyal to the series. It is the best of both worlds - fans would still get their books and someone would get the benefit from that. On top of that, we are also in possession of a large number of manuscripts for various lines (we have a _lot_ of Slayer's Guides and Encyclopaedias on file!), which I am sure their authors are dying to see in print.

So, whether you are an existing company or someone looking to break into the RPG market, if you are interested in this idea drop me a line at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com. If anyone comes up with a _solid_ business plans for lines such as these, we will give it full consideration.

I know that a couple of the older Slayer's Guides have been released in PDF format...have you considered doing this with other Slayer's Guides and especially the various Encyclopaedias?

The Encyclopaedias were a series that interested me but that I never quite pulled the trigger on buying for various reasons. And unfortunately, the completist in me probably won't now that several of them are unavailable.

However, I would be very interested in picking up lower-cost PDF versions if the quality was good. (Are the PDF Slayer's Guides [Gnolls, for example] good-quality scans, or are they actually formatted for PDF?) For my own uses, I wouldn't even be concerned if the PDF versions included 3.5 updates for the older books.

Just a thought if these series are indeed being allowed to ride off into the sunset (i.e., gradually fall out of print).

Edited to add that I am no businessman and in no way endorse this as a "solid" business plan. Just a random thought from a consumer.

>Yes, there is another one I won't dwell on this, except to say it is based on >an old but _very_ popular RPG licence and any guessing games will be resolved >very soon. Moving on. . .

Could this possibly be Warhammer RPG ????

Will have to wait and see

IMO the Nemesis game ought to have a "Robots in Termight" chapter, or somesuch, which would cover ABC Warriors still in service as well as the robot planet Mekka, and maybe brief stats for the Time Tunnels' Mekaniks.

Heretic, watch what you say. ABC Warriors deserves its own treatment, sure they teamed up with Nemesis for a bit but they were out on there own well before he appeared in 2000AD. To be honest it would be better if Nemesis was a single sourcebook for the ABC Warriors. :p
