also, there are other clue, such as it having been in one 'old book' and ther ehaving been comics and movies of it in the past IIRC...
also, it has to have the potential for big battles... and I would guess relatively little continuity for lots of comics to be viable...

If you pulled 'Joe Smoe' off the street of any english speaking country in the world and asked them to list what they knew of
fantasy - those are the things I would expect to come up most (although many people not see OZ or Wonderland as fantasy), that and 'fairy tales' such as the Grim's volume...
