Mongoose Publishing's Rep...?

I'll vouch for the Atlantean d20 Conan. It was the first Mongoose product i actually purchased and i was very impressed. I actually went on to purchase Road of Kings, Scrolls of Skelos and the Mercenaries books, and they are all very high quality. My only qualm about the series is the repitition of the art. Most of it is extremely high quality, but using the the same pictures in some places from book to book seems like a cheap shortcut. I'd prefer all new art. And the page borders, as uniquely conan and erotic as they are, could use some variation as well. Other than that i really love the stuff, and my quibbles are minor.

British libel laws are a wonderful thing.

As Matt has been fond of pointing out to folks who don't like Mongoose in the past . . . allegedly. Certainly, I could never say that Matt Sprange has warned people who express unfavourable opinions about the company to watch what they say.

This is why I can't speculate about why Mongoose refused to disclose who their printers are in China, a country with an appalling labour rights record. I can't ask you to find out more about what exactly was involved in the creation of the Conan RPG, and why that might be relevant to a discussion of the company's reputation. I can't give you my honest opinion why about a dozen noted freelancers and creatives have either congratulated me for . . . less reticent . . . statements about MGP in the past, or ensured I had nothing to do with them before agreeing to work or speak with me. I can't tell you about widespread reaction to their offer of a penny a word on an industry list, or the opinions past employees of White Wolf and Decipher have had of their salary offers for full time employees, or the . . . candid . . . recollections creatives working for MGP have shared, partricularly regarding editorial competence and managerial ethics.

Naturally, nothing I have said here should be seen as implying anything in particular.

Dude, regardless of the accuracy or inaccuracy of the above post, it could be considered to have been written in terribly poor taste. I don't buy Mongoose because I don't like them, however going after them like this in a public forum just could be considered by some to make a person look vindictive and... well a bit petty.

It actually implies a lot, but more about the poster then who you are actually trying to imply things against. :\

I think offering a penny a word on an industry list is in poor taste, myself. As is asking for large submissions on spec. I'm not necessarily talking about MGP.

I just happen to think that creatives deserve better -- and they get it from good companies too.

I also think that it's incredible unethical to do business with a country that uses forced and child labour as part of its backbone of economic activity, regardless of the state of a particular shop in that country. This is not an opinion I'm willing to elaborate on, since it would violate forum rules.

I have yet to buy a Mongoose product (although I go back and forth on picking up "Stonebridge" regularly), but the Complete Campaigns series is going to do it this spring. Hopefully the impression will be a good one.

That was one of my favorite projects, for what it's worth. Renaissance era Italian gnomes, with characters modeled on DaVince, Michaelangelo, Machiavelli, and other famous figures of the time.

It's best if you're interested in a city where you can do lots of non-stabby stuff.

Not being an industry writer I wouldn't know, but it seems to me that if a writer finds the offer unreasonable they can just decline to write for the company. It's quite obvious that you have an axe to grind and this isn't the place for it friend. But I'll offer you a beer at my favorite tavern and tell you about this wench I met if we can drop the subject... ;)
