Hi guys,

A brand new book from Mongoose Publishing should be making its way to your local store right now - Sheoloth, City of the Drow.

This is a 256 page hardback covering, in exquisite detail, a complete Drow city, buried deep beneath the earth and ready to slot into any existing campaign.

Kicking off with a history and overview of Sheoloth, these chapters inspect the general layout of the city (with a complete full page map), how buildings are constructed, how food and water are regulated and, most importantly, how the city is ruled. Life in Sheoloth looks at how every individual within the city manages to survive on a day-to-day basis, from the lowest slave, to the highest ranks of the nobility and clergy. Law and order is a factor within Sheoloth, though it is often cruel and capricious - this too is examined in detail.

Powers of Sheoloth looks at the constant power struggles that exist within drow society and how the city has grown and expanded to reflect this constant warfare. Religion holds a great deal of power in the city, with over 5,000 priestesses following the Dark Mother across over 700 temples and churches. However, nobles, criminals, merchants and the Arcanists all vie for their own share of power, and this chapter is jam-packed with characters, plot hooks and possible alliances for the players to interrupt, whether they are playing their normal adventurers or have taken the plunge and are experimenting with drow characters.

The next chapter, Magic of the Drow, inspects the two greatest magical forces present in the city - necromancy and domination magicks. This covers such gruesome practices as fleshcrafting and virurgy.

The bulk of the book, however, is taken up by the descriptions of the many wards and locations of the city, together with the most prominent characters whom the players are likely to meet and interact with. It also covers the different types of buildings found within Sheoloth, as well as the businesses that often run from within them. The names of the wards are highly evocative and give some clue as to what your players can expect; the Ashen Bulwark, Blood Tithe, Burning Pit, Cabal Hold, Charred Gate, Crystalspine, Ebon Dock, Foreign Ward, Fungus Pits, Glory Crypt, Granite Circle, The Hordes, Leviathan Shield, Night Seal, Noble Labyrinth, Outland Thieves, Roaring Gate, Rusted Vein, Shrieking Hive, Silver Street, Sun Gate, Vault of Tombs, Wailing Way, Web of the Dark Mother and Witch Daggers.

Sheoloth, City of the Drow is recommended for mature readers only as while there is very little adult content, some may find some of the concepts covered here a little disturbing.

This book is available in your local stores now and is fully compatible with the Quintessential Drow, available next week. Whether you are looking to start an all drow campaign or just want a place of absolute nightmare to terrify your players, Sheoloth, City of the Drow is the book for you!

Neat!

We're starting a 3.5 campaign with brand new characters and a Drow campaign is gaining steam rapidly.

I wish there were some adventures for low level underdark parties. It's hard to fing underdark adventures, even ones you can adapt for Drow use, at low levels because surface dwellers have to already be of at least mid level to survive at all. For that matter, there aren't enough underdark adventures at all! :)

Sam Witt; It is designed for both 3.0 and 3.5; $34.95

Hope that helps!

Could you explain that part? Are there two sets of NPC stats, one for 3.0 and another for 3.5? Are assumptions about magical things, like guards using bulls strength at the begining of the shift, under 3.0 and 3.5?

I'm very leery of any company that claims 3.0 and 3.5 design. The two systems, in my playing, have been very different and have had different effects on almost all bluff spells, for instance so many standards, have gone out the window.

The city book & quint Drow make me wsh I wasn't the sole provider of a family....it REALLY SUCKS(!) not having a gaming budget!

OK, whining over, I guess I'll have to stick with P&P & my own 'stuff' until I when the lottery.:(

Hi guys,

Apologies for missing this before (note that if you are ever looking for a quick answer from us, take a trip to our forums on our web site - between us, we check those several times a day).

Basically, Sheoloth was written for 3.5, but we kept a close eye on 3.0 compatibility. So, for example, spell selections will be the ones with no changes required (even if the spells themselves have altered slightly in effect). Same with classes - we have ensured that the changed class features/progression will have no effect upon the actual character. The one outstanding 3.0/3.5 carryover are the skills. We have included conversion notes between the two but, to be honest, any veteran gamer will be able to approach Sheoloth and make any necessary adjustment on the fly without referencing them, as we have kept everything as simple as possible with this in mind.

Hope that helps!
