A new RPG hits the stores this week - Wars!
Written by Greg Lynch and Lizard, Wars is the RPG of a future Solar System set in the 24th Century, one in which Mankind has been split and alien forces are making their rapacious presence known. War is a fact of life across all the planets and heroes stand ready on all sides.
The Basic Rules chapter covers the tweaked D20 Modern rules used by Wars, making this a complete OGL rulebook with no other rules needed to play. This leads on to Character Creation which features the three human factions warring in the Solar System - the Earthers, Gongen (Martians) and Mavericks. Classes available to players include the Diplomat, Engineer, Leader, Medic, Pilot, Scoundrel and Soldier. These are all 20 level classes but a prestige is included that will gain the interest of a great many players - the Kizen Master.
Skills and Feats are covered next, altered specially for the Wars setting, before the Kizen chapter adds all new rules for Wars. A celestail phenomena known as the Mumon Rift has opened in the Solar System and as well as bringing alien races to humanity, the resulting flood of quantum particles has had a profound effect on some people. Kizen powers have begun to manifest throughout Mankind, bestowing abilities that range form the merely interesting to awe-inspiring. They have a range of effects, ranging across the physical, mental, energetic and spiritual. Kizen Powers are fully covered in this chapter and include such abilities as See Across the Ocean, Avoidance of Harm, Counter Kizen and Storm of Bolts. Make no mistake, a high level Kizen Character in Wars can achieve incredible actions!
The Combat chapter integrates Kizen with the D20 combat rules, along with hazards such as variable gravities, vaccuum and fear. Tools of Wars gives players the equipment they will need to survive in the Solar System of the future. Headings include Bots, weaponry (including the renowned FLIC - Fusion Light Infantry Cannon), Armour, Cybernetics, Enhancements, Services, Ships, Ground Vehicles and Juggernauts.
The remainder of the book looks at the various factions fighting for control of the Solar System, planets and locations, the alien Shi and Quay races and hints on how to Games Master games of Wars. The book is wrapped up by a Character Sheet and a full index.
Wars is a game of high science fiction action and loaded characters capable of defeating the greatest of enemies through Kizen powers or high technololgy.
Wars is a 304 page full colour hardback priced at $44.95, available from games stores and book shops this week. A full range of support is planned for Wars, and the first two supplements (Incursion and Battlefront) are already on their way to our warehouse.
