Monk-Duelist

You could always go for a Sorc/Monk build, but then you'd have to rearrange your stats. Again, do the Ftr 2/ Sorc 1/ Monk 1 for your 4th level character.

STR: 10
DEX: 16
CON: 14
INT: 8
WIS: 17
CHA: 12

You'll not get scribe scroll, but if you were only planning on taking one level of Wiz anyway, what does that matter? You have two spells known, so make them Mage Armor and True Strike, and can cast 4 spells per day.

The big drawback is your skills. You'll now only have 2 per Ftr level, 2 per Sorc level, and 4 per Monk, resulting in a grand total of 16 skill points. Hmmm...

Well, its another option.

Take both mage armor and shield if you're going the monk/wiz or monk/sorc route. Takes a little prep time, but that's +8 AC (+11 under 3.0).

The monk/sorcerer in our game did that, and between wis/dex/mage armor/shield/dodge/mobility/amulet of natural armor he was virtually untouchable by most of the creatures he fought. Luckily "Fluury of Misses" kept him from doing much damage, but he could at least run around drawing attacks of opportunity with impunity.

If you're going for Mage Armor, pick up Inertial Armor, instead. It's always on and the level of Psychic Warrior also gives you access to other always-on abilities.

Also, you can't lose access to it by having your spellcasting stat turned to mush.
