True enough. And, if one were to go the Fist of Raziel route, I'd suggest frontloading the entire Spirited Charge combo:

Thus:

Fighter 1 / Paladin 5 / Fist of Raziel 10

Gives you Tower Shield proficiency, and the full Spirited Charge feat line at first level (third, you'd take Power Attack, 6th Servant of the Heavens, 9th Divine Might, and so on).

Quite a nasty character from the very beginning.

Haven't got me books with me at the mo but I've got a build consisting of:

Cloistered Cleric 1/Paladin 6/ Fist of Raziel 5

This works really nicely what with the caster levels enhancing the cleric side of things and not paladin. Basically a lot of the spells I memorize now and will as I level up will be those that are handy but that which our cleric doesn't usually memorize such as lesser/restoration or delay/neutralize poison and a few lesser cures, (can never have enough of those). Back that up with the good domain for +1 caster level and that feat in Complete Divine which gives you +4 to your caster level up to your HD, and you're looking pretty good and useful.

I stayed away from mounted combat though and focused on feats such as resounding blow and quell the profane for those extra special criticals. Even though I haven't had a chance to take advantage of the criticals I've scored so far due to the undead types we've been facing, we're just about at the end of our campaign and the new one looks to be a lot different and I'm sooooo looking fwd to those crits now.

Finally, I get where you're coming from Carpe but even though the numbers might be on yer side, you just can't beat all the funky smite effects of a FoR. I'd rather have the increased number and potency of these than a paltry +2 to damage every time I hit. Saying that, at 18th I shall be switching to Templar to gain advantage of that, and that mettle ability which truly rocks.

If I can ever get my charater posted, check him out. He's nowhere near as good as a lot of the characters I've seen the guys and gals here post but he does the job and I'm having great fun with him and I hope you have as much fun with yours also.
