Monk's Belt help

Well thats just a cheap shot.

It's not a cheap shot. A cheap shot would be to call you stupid. I didn't.

I merely pointed out that saying "Because it's called a monk's belt, it's meant for monks" is disingenuous.

I think that it's much more likely that the monk's belt, like the belt of dwarvenkind, is really aimed at non-monks who have been judged worthy enough to gain some of the class's (race's) abilities. In other words, a belt of dwarvenkind is given by dwarves to those they have judged to be honorary members of the clan. A monk's belt is given by monks to those they have judged to be honorary members of the order.

Sorry then. I guess I see it as cheap monk upgrade (better damage, +1/day stunning fist and +1 AC) and something a grand old master might pass on to his most enlightened pupil.

Whereas I share your view of the belt of dwarvenkind.

Well look at the other way.. if it doesn't give wis to AC, then you're paying 13k for 1 AC (that doesn't work when you're wearing armour or a shield) and 1d8 instead of 1d3 on your unarmed attacks. Doesn't that seem a little exorbitant ?

Pretty damn good for a brawler with Improved unarmed strike:)

But that said I think it is a poorly designed item. Its price might be to high and its mechanics are not written out (and perhaps thought out) specific enough.

Additionally if +stat bonus to AC where priced at about 10k (-the improved damage and +1AC) I think mages would be crafting Belts of canny defense and charmed defense by the dozen.

a) this is true, but I don't consider it to be that important
b)The +3 modifier was already included, that is +1 wild wooden fullplate, about 18k, for a +9 ac bonus, while still allowing a shield, vs 13K to add your wis, full dex, and +1 to your AC
c)as a druid the periapt is already at the top of the list, this doesn't make much difference.
d)if you shift into a creatue with x attacks, as patryn said, you can either make your x natural attacks, or iteratave unarmed strikes based on your bab, also unarmed strike damage does not affect natural attacks.

The big thing in my book is that the monk belt AC is all touch AC, and applies even when you are flat-footed.

Actually no. I was thinking of a fighter (or any other non-monk warrior type character) with the Improved Unarmed strike feat.

Well, that guy is going to be able to wear armor and probably not have a great Wis to begin with. Does it benefit him if he wants to pick bar fights without his armor? Yes, but for 13K it should benefit him occasionally.

Wouldn't the belt also change subdual damage to normal damage?

So it would grant +1AC, and 1d8 normal damage instead of 1d4 subdual damage

Not sure if that would be worth 13k though, but I still like the item
