Monster books: No love?

Even when the new ones are better then the ones you have?

Well, that's a rather subjective sentiment :)

In any case, while I like my Monsternomicon and my Tome of Horrors a lor (bad binding aside, on the latter) ... I still find that 80%+ of the monsters I use are in the SRD. So a plethora of new monsters isn't all that high on my list of priorities: I haven't bought a new one that wasn't heavily marked-down since the 3.5 MM.

These past year we have seen monster books that surpass even the much loved Monsternomicon; ...

Is this a troll? :p What book "surpass"es the Monsternomicon?

I have most of the books on your list, but nothing comes close, sorry. ToH2 and LotD are quite good though. But at least a full point away from Mosternomicon IMO.

Answer the question. The second question.
:D

As others have said, it's saturation. There are so many books out there - and I have most of them.

In all, I now have access to over 9,000 monsters. Of those, probably about 8,200 I will never use.

I honestly figure that, especially with the ability to play around with templates and classes, I'm unlikely to go beyond the MM and the occasional beastie I find in a (non-monster-focussed) sourcebook or module.

I've reached the saturation point. I have access to so many monsters, I have to make lists to remind myself which ones I want to use. Templates and class levels make even less of a reason to expand my collection of monster books.

Besides, how many versions of Orcus do I really need?
