D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Aberrations & Oozes Video

Video Highlights
  • Aberrations are now consistently tied to the Far Realm as creatures from or transformed by it, including the flumph.
  • Githyanki and githzerai are now aberrations instead of humanoids. There's an implication that even now the gith might still have some part to play in the mind flayers' plans and that gith societies are so disciplined in part to protect against future manipulation by the mind flayers.
  • As a sidenote, orcs do not have their own Monster Manual entry and instead can be represented by NPC statblocks. Most creatures that used to be humanoids but are still in the Monster Manual are now other types (like the goblin, kobold, and gnoll).
  • Mind flayers other than the few exceptions that have escaped the illithid hive mind do not consider themselves people. DMs are explicitly advised in the video to keep mind flayers alien and prevent them from becoming a "human in a monster suit".
  • New Monster: Githyanki Dracomancer, a githyanki with dragon-themed magic.
  • Many creatures that formerly used mundane weapons now have unique ones, like the slaad's chaos blade.
  • The Blob of Annihilation shunts things it absorbs into the Astral Plane.

I absolutely Love the art for the aboleth and the grimlock!!

This one really doesn't seem to introduce much in the way of new creatures, most some new Gith & the Blob of Annihilation, more creature type shifts from humanoids and monstrosities to Aberrations, and some mechanical & lore changes so I see why they combined their videos

Also at the very end Todd mentions there is a ton more of these videos on different creatures, so the assumption there were only going to be a few more appears to be false. I still think they will combine plants and beasts.

Fey is by itself so I full expect it to be much more meaty in terms of additions and changes then Aberrations & Oozes, not just Centuars, Gobliniods, and Bullywogs moving to Fey and Archhags.

I vaguely recall hearing word of archfey being a thing in the new book, but I can't recall where I heard that? I'd LOVE to see that, though!!
