Monster Manual 3.5. Art Gallery

Archons- Okay. The trumpet archon looks a bit too much like the 3e planetar, though.
That was a trumpet archon too in 3E, I think. Just had its trumpet in the sword form.

Though I miss the old hound archon's overconfident smirk & stance.

To each their own, I suppose. I certainly don't -- give me Lockwood, Wood and Reynolds anyday.
Mayhaps - and I do like their work - but I still miss DiTerlizzi. Especially with the pseudodragon, which is what I was referring to. I mean, we've got the piece in the 3.5 MM, which looks evil and demonic, or this far more loveable creature. One does it for me, the other one makes me wonder why so many wizards want them for pets.

I definitely prefer WAR's pseudodragon over DiTerlizzi's. Diterlizzi's looks like a baby velociraptor from Jurassic Park, with wings. And keep in mind the 3.5 pseudo is chilling on an ORC skull. I take it as if you're a bad guy, and you start talking trash to the friendly neutral good wizard with the little dragon familiar, this is the version that gets in your face.

Either way, don't blame WAR, as you can see from the "What were they thinking" thread the Art Director for the 3.5 MM specifically asked for more fearful, intimidating versions of some of the old stand-by's.

So picture Tony's little pseudo-velocipoopy looking all pissed off and mean. Nah, I'll take WAR's.

Okay, the new nymph I can deal with... I'd even call the switch from whorehouse blonde to call-girl red and upgrade. But the Dryad? The Tiefling? Even the Planetar! I can't just go and replace all my old MM girlfriends.

Sigh... At least they kept the Tarrasque. Doesn't she just have the prettiest smile?

Why not? Wouldn't you look debonair walking down the street with one on each arm? You'd look quite the charmer!

For the same reason that there are two Ogres (Ogre and Ogre Mage). And that reason is...well, I dunno. I guess they felt it warranted it's own entry, being different enough from the base creature. :)

Yes, but traditionally, "Ogre Mages" are considered a seperate species from ogres. Or at least, warrant their own entry in the monster manuals.. The illithid simply has class levels and it's own picture. Although I STILL say it looks like and would fit better as a psion.

I, for one, am quite fond of the new psuedodragon picture; it fits into the whole "draconic cat" personality. It's very content looking.

I wasn't fond of either the original blink dog or titan pictures, but I don't like the new ones very much either. The titan looks too, well, juvenile. And, as previously mentioned about the blink dog, it's time to put Old Yeller down.

It kind of irritates me that the inevitables and gith races have re-used art. It would irritate me more if they weren't really good pictures.

And I almost did a little gleeful dance for the demon and devil pictures. It's good to know that the fiends are still loved, and I really like the cornugon; very draconic.

Oh, and Spiteful Dwarf, I've used delvers. IMC, they're sort of like treants, except they take care of the dirt. Make sure it isn't over-mined, maintains nutrients, etc. And, of course, they say "hoom".

Demiurge out.

I see that ass-ugly monster the Delver is still in the book... Tell me, have any of you guys actually used that thing?

Yeah, they play an important part in my campaign world. They effectively created much of the underground cavern systems that riddle the world's crust. Plus, they live and work with dwarves, who bargain with them to delve (hence the name) great cavernous halls for dwarf cities. In a way, their relations with dwarves are similar to those between the Fremen and the sand worms in Dune - the dwarves see them as huge, sacred beings that provide a very necessary function.

Monster Manual v3.5, now with 66% more nipples!

*sigh*

I didn't dislike about 99% of the old artwork, but adding some new artwork and being able to see a diffrerent represntation of a monster would have been nice. Not to mention just being able to see the new artwork. Instead, we get just what was missing before plus a couple replacements, two of which are Nymph and Dryad. Oh, brother.
