So don't be a DM if one cannot make the time.
That's a great way to keep your core demographic in the game. If WOTC had that attitude, they would lose even more people to Playstations, XBOX's and so forth.

I set aside adequate time, and I think that after 10 years GMing the current campaign, my players would prefer me to keep on GMing. I would just prefer not to waste it on fiddling my way through the fiddly stuff, reserving it instead for the things that matter in a game.

I can't believe you're serious about this. What about for a group of friends who wants to play D&D, but none of them have the time to make everthing on your own (or spend whatever time you believe is an appropriate amount of time to be a DM)?

That's what I thought D&D was, making the game your own using the rules given and a sprinkling of rules from Unearthed Arcana and house ruling stuff. Not being spoon-fed everything to you.
Hm, you and I have different ideas of what D&D is. I thought D&D was a game, with rules and options to facilitate a game. The rest doesn't matter as long as everyone has fun.

Sure, it's a particular type of game, though. It has more roleplaying than Risk and more rules than make-believe.

Guys, he's trolling. Don't chomp the flamebait so hard. You'll hurt your tongue.

If he is, he's remarkably consistent about it. He's expressed the same opinion many, many times, both here and on the WotC boards.

Said it upthread and I'll say it again. I buy books to do the work for me. Why should I spend thirty bucks so that I can sit down and spend umpteen hours tweaking it to fit my game and filling in the blanks? If you can give me a book that I use most of the information in it, and it saves me prep time, then that's a great book. Doesn't matter what the topic is. If it saves me time, then that's what I want.

Jeez, I've got what, five books of "standard" 3e entry monsters - MM I, three Creature Collections and a net book whose name I forget at the moment. More monsters than I could ever use anyway. To get me to buy a new monster book, you better be doing a lot of the scut work for me. Otherwise, I'll stick with what I got, thanks.

Could you be just a little bit more elitist/inflammatory?

I think there are a few people you havent offended yet.

Lazy baby gamer indeed.

I've read some of his comments in that thread at wotc and was surprised people like Rich Baker still continue to post and answer on the official boards. Are they required by contract or simply masochistic?

(Start with post 1825, Arivia's question. It leads to post 1835 by Razz. Which is rather interesting in light of the current argument. Now who's lazy?)

Trolls sometimes have axes, and they just loooove to grind them at every opportunity.

In Razz's case, I suspect he craves attention--admiration or animosity, it makes no difference--and thinks posting inflammatory, irrational opinions is the best way to go about getting it.

See, when Razz reads that, he gets a little kick out of it. Not only has he successfully baited you, but your assertion that he's offended virtually everyone makes him feel powerful. Simple psychology.

Troll . . . jerk . . . it's a Mystery.

No, not really - Troll is merely a subspecies of Jerk, albeit common enough in its own right to be mistaken as a unique species all of its own.
