Monster Manual Edition War: The Game!

Also, while I'm thinking about it:

Initiative.

In 1E, it's a d6 check, right? Vs. 3E's and 4E's d20 + Mods? So, 3E and 4E monsters are probably always going to go first.

But the 1e creatures will surprise more often.

If something happens that requires a skill check, the TSR creatures are SOL; if something happens that requires a proficiency check, the WotC creatures are SOL.

I'm telling you, this could be pretty darn fun. Not because X is better than Y, but just because the differences and similarities would be highlighted in an unusual way. Also, we'd have to stop and really think about how the different rulesets should interact.

So 4e Orcus goes first, uses Touch of Death (resistances and immunities don't apply) and 1e Orcus is down for the count. Is this how it goes down?

Very likely, although we'd need to see how Touch of Death is worded to determine whether or not 1e Orcus gets his Spell Resistance. We'd also have to look in the MM 1e to determine what 1e Orcus is specifically immune to, and determine which rules take precedence in the event of contradictory wordings.

But, yeah, probably.

Then the 1e nymph disrobes, and 4e Orcus dies.

I'm starting to see the possibility for another Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny video. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwBK31tC5QM]YouTube - ‪Lemon Demon - The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny‬‏[/ame]

LOL, or the 2e guys win almost every time, because they are using d10, low roll wins!

Re: Orcus' touch of death vs. Orcus- Orcus (1e) has 85% magic resistance, but this is modified by -5% per caster level over 11, so that doesn't help.

On the other hand, 1e Orcus might actually be a projected image, and if 4e Orcus doesn't get him right off the bat, 1e Orcus has a lot of tricks to play- summoning vampires and demons, spell like abilities, etc.
