Monster Manual II Art Gallery!

MMIII?

Are they going to keep updating the entire monster collection for d20? That makes me wonder if we are going the way of 2E (all those extra books). I'm not saying I don't like them doing this but if they do they'd better be very careful or they go belly up like TSR did.

Haven't they always been many leagues away from the quality of the 10 main dragons?

Seriously though, how many dragons does one campaign need anyway? If you've got 30 dragon species, where do they all fit? What is the minimum size of a viable dragon breeding population, especially assuming that every so often, a group of humans, dwarves, and elves comes along and bumps off an adult dragon?

For me, I always hoped that they would update the other metallic dragons like the Iron and his kin from an old issue of Dragon 2nd ed sats. I had one player who was a half-iron dragon and it was pretty cool since most other people didn't know about the iron dragon bit at all.

Looking through the art work, and I was distracted from the beauty by how many monsters that are in other 3rd ed. publications already. Reprinting materials was(is?) one of the major flaws from old wizards/TSR works.

I don't see too many reprints...some of the stuff (the gem dragons and thri-kreen) have been in web enhancements, but from what I understand they reworked the thri-kreen anyway, to make them more playable as PCs. They may have done the same with the gem dragons.

The Desmodu and mooncalf are from the modules...the Legendary ones have appeared before...

That's not too bad overall, out of "nearly 200 creatures". No real overlap with the stuff I've got aside from the Legendary creatures, and it'll be very nice to get the monsters from the modules without buying them (since I wouldn't be likely to run them anyway).

Oh, and Nightfall: I think it's a little hard to tell if they're from Scarred Lands just from the artwork, no? No sense jumping to conclusions just yet.

What's up with their obsession with the Legendary TIger...THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THEY HAVE PUBLISHED IT IN A SOURCEBOOK SINCE SPRING!

Legendary Tiger!Legendary Tiger!Legendary Tiger!Legendary Tiger!Legendary Tiger!Legendary Tiger!Legendary Tiger!....we get the point already...jeez.

Oh, and whats a Zodar?

Ragewinds

Sorry, Ragewinds are descended from the old Sword Spirit of Planescape.
But there are some beasts from Creature Collection in the mix. :)

But not too long ago, a source of mine told me that there WOULD be some Creature Collection monsters IN this book. I have very little reason to doubt him since he is in a position to know such things.

WotC themselves already said that there are a few monsters from the Creature Collection book in the MM2. I believe it was stated somewhere on their MsgBrds (quite a while back though).
