Monster Natural Attacks - UPDATE!!!

First Post
I posted this to the General Forum and though I should post it here, in the rules forum. Sorry for the crosspost.

I just got feedback on these questions (see earlier post) from WotC. I also sent these questions to SAGE Advice and I will forward the answers to the forum when they get to me.

"Question: Are a monsters natural attacks fixed regarding which is a primary and
which are secondary? For example, can a creature attack once (not a full
attack) with a secondary weapon, counting it as primary weapon regarding
attack and damage bonus?"

"Answer: A monster's natural attack is fixed regarding which is a primary and which are secondary."

"Question: When a monster attacks using a standard action (not a full attack) it can
attack once. Does this allow it to attack with ALL its primary weapons, or
only with one. For example, a creature with 2 claws gets both claws only if
it makes a FULL ATTACK, otherwise it only gets one claw when making standard
attacks (such as when moving). "

"Answer: It can attack with ALL its primary weapons."

Intersting to say the least.

Well, the pounce ability allows the monster to move AND make a FULL attack - that is attack with ALL its weapons, primary AND secondary. that's the big advantage with pounce.

According to the WotC reply, all monsters are allowed to move and attack with ONLY their primary weapons, although ALL of them (if more than one, such as 2 claws) are used.

What a pity... I always thought that any case that lets you do more than 1 attack required a full attack action, therefore a full-round action. It seemed such a simple rule.

I reckon we send a bunch of Carrion Crawlers, Girallons, and Expeditious Retreated Gibbering Mouthers round to their cubicles to teach them the error of their ways...

Okay, everyone pony up another dollar for the "Buy Customer Service a set of rulebooks" fund...

No kidding. Unless something changed, a monster/character only gets one attack when making a standard action, even if it has something like 2 claw attacks.

Check the Fiend Folio for example...monsters with two claw attacks have "Claw +xx melee" listed under the "Attack" line.

I think someone's been drinking the funny water at WotC again. :)

I've been following the trend of answers people have received from Customer Service, and I think it is actually a useful resource.

As long as we boil any question down to a Yes/No, then whatever they say, there's only one alternative answer, and it has to be the right one.
