Monsters in the MM3 (and other upcoming books)

Personally, I'm very, very glad to see neanderthals given stats. I've long wanted to give them a role in my homebrew world, but I was too lazy to whip up stats myself. Although neanderthals tend to be a little more civilized in my homebrew, it should just be a matter of minor adjustments to bring 'em in line with my ideas.

I am, however, not very inspired by the new uldra. It doesn't fit my concept of the creature. I think I'd rather use the CC version, since it sticks closer to the uldra of legend.

i also have a feeling that the Uldra here will not be like the ones that appeared in Dragon over 15 years ago. chances are, they will be fey instead of humanoid (i have that feeling). but you never know... i like to take a small vanity in wondering if WotC people spend some time looking at the CC. ;)

I like the flind. Looks like a good straight conversion. I wish WotC had more of those.

As for the kenku... yuck. Too great of a departure from the AD&D version. Like the uldra from Frostburn, I'm happier with the CC version. However, if you gave them a different name, they could probably work as a different race... and come to think of it, so could the new uldras... so I guess it's not such a waste.
