Monsters of the Desert

there may of course be more monsters than just what you see in the gallery, but i wouldn't be suprised if these are it.

i see a number of critters that are semi-familiar but that i just can't place. i'm fairly sure the ant lion is a conversion.

found a number of more "available" monsters, some of which are in or soon to be in the Creature Catalog:
sandman, opinicus, addazahr, dragon beetle, belgio, tembo, vampire cactus, camprat, fire falcon, pernicon, desert troll, spotted lion, hyenadon, death dog, sandling, hatori, nagpa, sollux, lybbarde, rhaumbusun. :)

I also recommend investing in Rary the Traitor. It is Greyhawk specific and details denizens of the Bright Desert. I think it is a great resource for your what you seem to looking for, BOZ.

From WGR3 Rary the Traitor, TSR 9386, 1992:

Desert Centaur (HD 5; THAC0 14; AC 5)
Manscorpion (HD 8; THAC0 13; AC 1)
Monarch Scorpion (HD8+8; THAC0 13; AC 2)

Plus, it comes with a pretty cool map of the Bright Desert. Anyway, I hope this helps.

that reminds me of where diaglo probably got the manscorpion reference from. :)

The belgoi appeared in Dungeon #111. Athas.org also has a version of this (and the dragon beetle and tembo). Death dog is in the Fiend Folio and the sandman & sandling are in the Tome of Horrors. Dunno if this is relevant to your needs - just a heads-up :).

The Desert Centaur (Hueleneaer) appeared in Dungeon Magazine #103 (in the Living Greyhawk portion). Not surprisingly, it was an article on the Bright Desert.

that's a few cut out, but there were so many to choose from it's not even a problem. ;) i'm ignoring "unofficial" stuff like athas.org and Tome of Horrors for the purpose of this current project though. i suspected i had seen the death dog somewhere, just too lazy to go looking for it. ;)

had a look through the AQ MC, and while most of them could be found in a desert, the following critters are desert-specific. I decided not to mess with stuff that’s too tied into the setting, such as the many and various genies.

Black cloud of vengeance, camel of the pearl, debbi, ghost mount, heway, stone maiden, and vishap.

I would also add in the buraq – for the simple thing that having an extraplanar critter couldn’t hurt. ;)

I love to see how the Vizier's Turban (Al-Qadim) is done in 3e. It's so weird, it was a hell of a thing for me to try and convert.

Ah, a man after my own heart. What a flavorful critter that was. I, too, have always harbored a love for desert adventures and creatures (as probably revealed by the fact that I created Hamunaptra ). ;)

Speaking of which, there are quite a few good monsters in there, if you're looking for 3.5-compliant monsters suitable for desert settings. If you're looking for class options to go with them, I'd recommend checking out the Desert Heroes PDF . Hot off the presses! :D
