Monsters with Levels.

So what is the cruelest monster with character levels you have ever created?

I personally have always wanted to create the tribe of Umber Hulks with levels in barbarian. Just the idea of raging Umber Hulks gives me goosebumps. ;)

I've always been a fan of Troll Cleric 1. It's low level enough so that you could concievably throw it at a party but it still gets to cast Endure Elements (fire) and Endure Elements (acid). Both spells have a 24 hour duration so it's very reasonable to say that the troll has the spells up at all times.

I havn't (But I Will). However, I heard of this, by someone else on another thread, that really sounds Evil:

An Illithid rogue 5. Ouch. Mindblast you, then sneak attack you with FOUR tentacles.

HUMOR -- save your flames.

Any multi-armed critter with 20 levels of monk and rogue and the multiattack and multidexterity feats. Sure he'd only fit in your Epic campaign but four-armed flurry of blows at d20 +10d6 sneak attack? Is it safe to assume since a two-armed monk would get 6 unarmed (pun fully intended) attacks with flurry at this level that a four armed critter would get 12? With only the -2 penalty for using flurry? So let's say he hits with half those attacks and does average damage (read half of maximum) 6 x (10 + 30) = 240 points of damage in one round. If you got really lucky and landed 3/4 of those punches for 3/4 maximum damage you'd have 9 x (15 + 45) = 540 points of damage in one round. Of course this is just mean and absurd and though I can't think of anything off hand, probably not rules-friendly. Of course at range this nasty isn't nasty as much, but few things are. I'm sure there will be a string of replies telling me why this isn't legal or valid or fair and that's fine. I don't intend to use it, was just an extrapolation of a theme I had. And for grins say he landed ALL those blows for maximum damage: 12 x (20 + 60) = 960 points of damage in one round. Ha ha. Put that in your Harper pipe and smoke it, Elminster.

That troll cleric is a good one. I'm a big fan of throwing classed monsters at my parties. The worst I think I ever did to them was a party of ghouls. I had three or four rogues and one who was an OoBI. The rogue ghouls covered their claws in poison, since they were immune. The rogues set up flanking positions and were causing two fort saves per hit, in addition to sneak attack damage. The archer spent his actions messing up the cleric and the party archer. It was a really tough fight, but a lot of fun.

I also made a Shadow Cleric 5. His favorite trick was Animating some skeletons, which served as distractions while his shadow spawn dealt the real pain.

Last but not least was the Osyluth Rogue. He first went invisible and threw up some Major images of himself. Then he threw out some walls of ice to separate the party. After the wizard wasted a few spells on false Osyluths and fended off some animated dead, he just let the illusions roam around. When one of them appeared right next to him, he continued to look for the source of the spells. He didn't realize that the one next to him was dropping his invisibility. One full attack later, the wizard never underestimated smoke screen tactics again.

Inferno, a unique epic level red/gold crossbreed dragon that is a must see.

Not all dragons wait around for an adverturing group to come along, some actually have a life.

this dragon is a great way to introduce players of all levels to draconic societies, without getting them killed.

his full history, stats, and future ambitions are all laid out for any GM to use immediately in game play, and adventures of all levels, including epic can have fun interacting with him and obtaining many long term quest and draconic political based adventures on his behalf, he also can make a nasty long term enemy.

you can find his complete write-up on the Creature Catalog/Homebrew, just look for the "Inferno" entry by Cassiopea.

Illlithid Rogue/Ranger/Assassin....

Also give the guy a whip in one hand and a servicable weapon in the other, you got a guy who can grab ya, yank ya down, slice open your gut, and feed on your brains at will.

Also done a bunch of awakened animals....W00T Dire Eagle Psionicists! :)

The first classed monster I used on my party in 3rd edition was a group of 3 Trolls each with 1 level of Barbarian.

You think raging Umber Hulks are bad? Raging Trolls almost got a TPK on a group of 7 level 4-5 PC's!

I was a little easier on them in the future.

For example when they reached 10th & 11th level the tribe of Hill Giants they fought only had a Hill Giantess/Druid 7, a Hill Giant Chieftain/Fighter 6 and a pair of Hill Giant/Barbarian 3's. That and 6 other 'regular' Hill Giants. Oh yeah the Hill Giants also had 3 pet Dire Bears.

And they still beat them all (my group was way overpowered but that's what I and they wanted at the time)
