Monte's secret project confirmed

Personally, I'd love to see a book that dealt with sexuality in a mature manner. Something that dealt with spirituality and intimacy. Something that included prestige classes more than just "I can bop better than the next babe".

Why don't you hop over to house rules and contribute to the Complete Guide to Unlawful Carnal Knowledge d20?
We got a tantric prestige class, too.

The typical adventurer kills and murders (for he is the instigator on most occassions) hundreds of sentient beings during his career, and people frown upon the idea of Book of Vile Darkness?

Makes sense ;)

Obviously, tBoVD is too strong material for someone. But then again, it's a cap product, and no other product will require you to have it. Maybe just tBoVD 2, eh?

Call me conservative, a prude, whatever; flame away as much as you like, but converting utter depravity into "crunchy bits" just doesn't seem right.

I don't want semi-intelligent tumours for familiars, I don't want rules for human sacrifice and the selling of souls... all that just strikes me as sick.

And, yes, I know it's a game, that it already involves magic and the creatures of the outer planes and all that is evil, but this new book seems to be taking things to an extreme that I don't feel comfortable with.

I also don't think that it is in the best interests of the industry for the market leader to be producing something so apparently beyond the bounds of normal decency as this appears it is going to be.

Cheers
NPP

PS: I also know that the opinions expressed above are neither popular nor necessarily welcome but I am simply expressing my opinion.

Such subjects fascinate me, personally! I even had a bit of contact with real life Occult!
:D

Caliban, thats was pretty cool. Thats the kind of stuff a book like this needs!

In general, young children aren't sexual, and thus aren't effective as symbolic sex objects. They are good as symbolic sacrifices for other purposes though (such as youth, unrealized potential, or innocence.)

You would want an adolescent virgin, to release the maximum amount of repressed sexual energy when you sacrifice them.

Attractive young women serve as a nexus of sexual energy. (Because of the males directing their unrequited sexual and mental energies toward them. All those guys fantasizing or obsessing about her creates a buildup of psychic energy.)

You don't get nearly the same potency when sacrificing an ugly virgin (although they will serve in a pinch).

In general, a male won't have as many females infatuated with him as a female would have males infatuated with her. Also, males tend not to remain virgins long if they do have several females lusting after them, while social mores make it more likely that females, even attractive females, will remain a virgin long enough for you to track them down and sacrifice them.

Females are preferred as sacrifices because women symbolize all the powers of creation, life, fertility, and birth. It's that whole womb thing.

...What?

Hmm, no comment, except...

...it should have been an adventure, rather than what it is. Seems about as stupid as White Wolf's Black Dog line.

Lords of Darkness, while a great supplement, has yet to be useful for its "crunchy bits" on how drugs work in Faerun...

Isnt funny how people like to stick up for thier internet friends

Had you ever considered the fact that they might AGREE with me?

And just to clear up a point, I NEVER mentioned anyhting to do with Hollywood movies...
So stop mis quoting me and stick to the facts...

Is this a mis-quote:

"Next you will want every movie thats been made about rape or murder or anything naughty taken off our screens..."

Excuse me if I made the leap from "screens" to "Hollywood."

If your soft self rightseous heart cant handle me being interested in something so bad and nasty and taboo then unfortunatly thats something you have to deal with...

I really don't give a damn what you are interested in. My reaction was precisely and only to your statement that if I don't appreciate what you do, that I should be "playing nintendo." Or is that another alleged mis-quote that you would like to discalim?

Au contraire! ;)

The rules on drugs have been an absolute hit in my Realms campaign... From Thayan merchants to subversive sects and religions, my players are frequently tested with temptations from these areas... And when going against a dragon or equally powerful foe, who wouldn't want a cheap, easily accessible, easily replaceable power boost?

Most recently in my campaign, a high-level NPC druid in my campaign was addicted with no PC aware of this fact. He began to send out the party on missions to retrieve unusual "natural spell components" for a new spell he was creating. Of course, the party found out later they were just feeding the druid's addiction.. but it is how they all reacted after learning this which made for great gaming. A wonderful test of alignment.

I am curious as to what in particular you do not like about the rules for Faerunian "controlled substances." I see many RP possibilities... plus the new mechanics add a random element to battles and other die-rolling events (i.e. Does a character in possession of a strength-enhancing weed use it at the start of the battle, or struggle with using it until there are no other options?).
