Monte's secret project confirmed

*agrees with Morrus* Any chance I can get your d20 stuff Morrus that you're not using? :) I need some things to sell off to Orcus for a comment I made having him and N'sync in the same sentence...

Personally, I'd love to see a book that dealt with sexuality in a mature manner. Something that dealt with spirituality and intimacy. Something that included prestige classes more than just "I can bop better than the next babe".

some people are just so touchy. :) God, do you have any advice on how to calm down all these raging emotions?

In other words, you'd be okay with a prestige class based entirely on traditional Tantric practices, as long as it retained the spiritual as well as physical connotation of the source material? ;)

(Y'know, that might actually be good for a laugh. I'm imagining the... complications a Tantric spellcaster must have to deal with to be useful on a dungeon crawl. :D )

The problem with that is that if you need to be told how to roleplay intimacy, emotion, and things of that nature, I don't see how an RPG suppliment could help you in the slightest. And god help you writing rules for that stuff.

That's my problem with the BoUCK. Admittedly, I only read over the 2e version, but it seemed that for every dash of something I'd want to use (socal mores and commentary, demihuman perspectives and biology, spells and items that could be used without a fit of the giggles), there were several "skank out" spells, porn elementals, pimp kits, magical vibrators, and things of that ilk that spring straight from a 13 year old mentality.

While it'd be nice if sexuality and the like were maturely represented in upcoming race/culture suppliments, I think that any book written with the intent of only being played by good/mature roleplayers is begging for trouble. So while I'd like to see it handled well, I doubt I'll see that done outside of individual DM's and players.

I guess so... I'm not familiar with Tantric practices. ;) One of the things I've seen presented with the "sexy" prestige classes is that they've all got great manipulative abilities. They've got great charming and seducing powers... which, to me, isn't what sex is about.

I'm not actually talking about role-playing things. I mean concrete game mechanics that sexually minded prestige classes or feats could provide. Something like a village midwife who imprints a young couple on each other, creating a bond that couldn't be broken by simple spells or skill checks.

If this book covers human sacrifice and evil cults, will it try to explain the following cliche?

Why is it when an evil cult needs to sacrifice a virgin (and the heroes are around to stop them), they always grab some hot chick, that you'd seriously doubt is a virgin? Other than the fact after her rescue she probably won't be a virgin anymore, why don't they go after easier targets. What about young children for example, they're easy to nab and have a far better chance of actually being a virgin. Or if the evil cult is somehow squeamish about sacrificing children, then why don't they grab the most pitiful loser of a male, that would never get laid in his life ever. No one would care about him to bother rescuing him, and he'd probably be easy to nab as well.

In general, young children aren't sexual, and thus aren't effective as symbolic sex objects. They are good as symbolic sacrifices for other purposes though (such as youth, unrealized potential, or innocence.)

You would want an adolescent virgin, to release the maximum amount of repressed sexual energy when you sacrifice them.

Attractive young women serve as a nexus of sexual energy. (Because of the males directing their unrequited sexual and mental energies toward them. All those guys fantasizing or obsessing about her creates a buildup of psychic energy.)

You don't get nearly the same potency when sacrificing an ugly virgin (although they will serve in a pinch).

In general, a male won't have as many females infatuated with him as a female would have males infatuated with her. Also, males tend not to remain virgins long if they do have several females lusting after them, while social mores make it more likely that females, even attractive females, will remain a virgin long enough for you to track them down and sacrifice them.

Females are preferred as sacrifices because women symbolize all the powers of creation, life, fertility, and birth. It's that whole womb thing.

...What?
