Monte's secret project confirmed

Wow. If that description's any judge, this book is a huge policy jump away from TSR's 2nd edition "moral code" that prevented villains from even winning...instead they're actively being given fangs. The drugs section of Lords of Darkness was just a sign of things to come.

Colour me surprised and impressed... :)

I like the sound of this book and the fact that the rumors are true.I just hope that the rumors that the other Monte book with Sean K Renyolds are also true.Maybe a fiend lord book.Hey if they'll do a mature book on evil why not a fiend lord book.

Cant Wait...

This book sounds cool...

Ive always liked cool badass Villians that always win
and you always have to struggle to come out on top in any situation...

Good Villians is what makes ANY story that much better
wether its an RPG, a movie or a Book...

and Monte really knows his stuff, he wont let us down!

Or should we give up on all these superhero d20 games (and there are a metric buttload) out there because Nightshift games already did it? :)

heh heh... No, we shouldn't bother with D20 Supers because the be all end all supers system is Hero 5th Ed. ;)

Book of Vile Darkness.
"Details slavery, human sacrifice, prostitution, and other sensative issues in a mature fashion."
192 pages, hardback, $32.95 due in October

Wow, if I didn't know better, this sounds like a White Wolf Black Dog release.

I'm not a prude or anything but how did this book get approved to be published by a company that's responsible for Pokemon? ;)

"Prostitution?" Does it actually say that in the catalog copy? Who writes that $#%$?

If I wrote a book called The Book of Vile Darkness, I'd fill it with the most hideously evil spells, feats, prestige classes, magic items, artifacts, monsters and NPCs that you'd ever want to put in a D&D game. I'd include rules for the benefits evil cultists get from sacrifices, new poisons, diseases, and so on.

I'd also include plenty of DM advice on running evil villains, villainous plots, evil organizations, and so on. I'd include a little, but not a lot of, discussion on running evil PCs.

Oh, and did I mention that the "monsters" that I'd put in there would include all the major archdevils and demon princes? And their various minions? And those that revere them almost like gods?

That's what I would do. If I wrote a book called the Book of Vile Darkness.

If you wrote such a book, I would have to buy it because I enjoy seeing such products written for discerning GMs who desire to have such resources on hand when necessary. I'd go so far as to pre-order such a book, if you wrote such a book, as soon as possible to guarantee that I would get a copy.;)

Hey, Monte!

I think you should write a book, and you should call it "The Book of Vile Darkness"

After all, you do seem to have given this some thought.. I bet you could springboard off these initial ideas and, using your enormous brain and godlike powers (acquired through years of Yog-Sothery, no doubt), you could get this book published real soon-like.

Yeah. That's what *I* think you should do.
