More Feats for All

Felnar

First Post
i just got the "Complete _____" series of books
now there's so many feats to choose from that i'm planning
to give out feats at a increased rate, every other level.
(to clarify that 1 every 2 levels for all classes)
does anyone think this would unbalance the classes?
i'm worried about it nerfing fighters

thanks-

It will indeed weaken fighters. In order to preserve balance, since you are multiplying the base feat gain by 1.5, multiply them all by 1.5. So fighters gain a bonus feat at 3 out of every 4 levels. And wizards at 3 out of every 10.

Even doing that...you will still weaken the fighters.

In general...there are only so many feats a character needs before he's got his schtick and is good to go. You don't see a lot of 20th level fighters because after about 12th level they have all the feats they need...so they multiclass into something else.

I would think about giving fighters some special abilities instead of more feats.

That's a better way to go, I definitely agree, but if you want to at least numerically balance them, with as little change needed as possible, the multiplying thing might be for you.

Actually what you need are more high level feats for the fighter.

Ironically (in the context of this discussion) that's one of the things the Complete books do reasonably well -- all those Style and Tactical feats are great for high level fighters -- so if your DM is selective what he allows from those books, petition for feats appropriate to the gap.

balance has little meaning anymore except as a skill

Do you mean "in D&D" or "in ENWorld House Rules"? :)

If the former: not all DMs allow every feat in every book, so there's still the opportunity for balance (if it was ever there in the first place).

If the latter: oh well :)
